I once bought a 70 Duster from my young brother-in-law. It had AC, but it had been hit in the grill and the condenser was laying in the trunk, with both connectors broken.

I bought two pieces of hoses, 4 clamps, and a dryer, put it back on. Back them A/C had the bubble in the dryer. I filled it up with Freon until the bubble went clear. The A/C worked perfectly.

I had talked with another fellow I worked with telling him what I was going to do, he told me, “It will not work, you have to get the vacuum pulled, them put the Freon in.”

We drove for the same trucking company, a few days later we happen to get in at the same time. I told him come out here to my car, tell me if my A/C is working or not.

He could not believe the cold air that was coming from it, I raised the hood showing him the rubber hoses and clamps I put on it along with the dryer. Them he asked me to start the car up again, the air was blowing very cold air, he said, “Its unbelievable, but I am sure glad you told me about this, now I know how to save money.” Never had a problem with it, but I did put just a bit of oil in it, the A/C system had been opened for over two years.

Of course doing this your taking a chance, yet in the course of a life time you will save money, for doing it yourself you will not spend near half the money you will have to pay a shop to do air condition work.

I had a friend that came to me, said a shop told him it would cost him $800.00 to fix his A/C. Said the evaporate was leaking Freon and had to be replaced, I can’t afford that.

We raised the hood and I check it out, the electric wire going to the compressors was broken, I spliced the wire, and it worked perfectly. Just think of the money that shop was going to make off of him.

There’s many shops out there that will rip you off.

I just wanted to let you all how i fix my A/C issue.
    1. I bought a 1 inch splicer and four clamps from home depot about $15.00
    2. I cut the A/C hose and put the splice in between with two clamps on each side.
    3. Went to the Petro to get my system vacuum and charge with freon but they gave me the run around because they didn't splice the line, so i bought four 12 ounce can of freon with leak stopper and oil in it from Walmart $65.00
    4. Charged my A/C, three days now and its working like a charm, hopefully it will continue to work without any issues.

I now consider this problem closed unless i run into any issues then I'll come running to you guys for help. Again i want to thank you all for all the help!

Glad it worked out good, most times it does, of course once in a while things will go wrong.
