We have never had this problem with any of the other trucks that we have driven. We just bought a Volvo 780 and the front tank keeps draining while we are driving and has to be recharged about every 7 minutes. We are not braking or doing anything that would use air during that time and it does not do it when we are parked even if we have the airbrakes released on the tractor. At first I figured it was a brake chamber or airline that was leaking so while it was parked I walked all around with the airbrakes released and pressure in the system and no leaks. It only does this while we are rolling down the highway. The rear tank never shows a drop in pressure. There is no air leaking from the storage tanks. Any thoughts?
Volvo 780 Front air tank keeps draining!

Do you have air ride on the front?
-
No, but Im thinking it might have something to do with the air bags on the drives or the cab. Something that’s only acive when driving. It’s maddening!Last edited: Mar 5, 2018
86mechanic Thanks this. -
That's what my theory was, air bag or leveling valve leaking, when you're bouncing down the road.86scotty, Lepton1 and Midnightrider909 Thank this.

you did not state what year of truck but they rust out badly from stone chips and salt. How long ago since the airdryer was serviced both are common
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
It’s a new truck. 2018 Volvo 780. Probably Should have mentioned that.

Midnight, take it back to a dealer. It sounds like a defective fitting. I run into these all the last one was a brand new WS with five bad fittings and three questionable fittings that the dealer replaced, that truck had less than 200 miles on the clock.Midnightrider909 and Lepton1 Thank this.

Only doing it while driving would lead me to start looking at the tractor brake system. Most (not necessarily all) everything else wouldn't stop leaking while you're parked.
Air up, dump the air to your trailer and release your parking brake. Shut off the engine and start searching with your ears for a leak. Then a spray bottle if needed. -
Possibly a brake chamber leaking. Have had a couple do that to me and they only leak while brakes are released.
Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
Im at the dealer. 2 leaks getting fixed. Air dryer and back of one of the tanks was cracked. Oh the trouble free joy of driving a new truck!
