    Hi everyone.

    I have a problem .

    So.. its a Volvo.. D13.

The problem is: all the time when im driving in to uphill or mountain zones my engine its going to derate mode. And i have to drive until the “check “ light will disappear.

Sometimes it can disappear in 20 min, sometimes in 6h.

“SCR Performance Low. Engine will derate soon”

and then “ Engine in derate”

This is happening when im loaded 10k or 44k.

I changed a lot of parts: EGR COOLER, EGR, Delta P Sensor, Intake sensor(2 times), Nox sensor(both.2 times) , DPF Doser (2 times) and others but i dont remember. So since i bought i spend more then 40k$ and the problem its here.

Been 4 times at Volvo dealer(in different states) and more then 10 at other truck shops.

    Nobody could fix it.

I drove like that more then 200k miles.. and the problem its still here.
Im trying to find a really good mechanic.
    Its Volvo 2011 D13 with 867.000mm now.
    Thank you

On the Detroit engine, there are two different amber check engine lights. When the engine detects an issue it will display both check engine lights. Usually one will disappear in seconds, and you will be left with the solid check engine light. The other check engine light with the word “check” inside means that the problem is happening right now.

Your truck probably uses only one amber light. So when it appears it means the problem is happening now. When it disappears then the problem is no longer present. On my DD15 engine, I am usually left with a solid check engine light that serves as a reminder to the driver that an issue was detected and is no longer occurring, unless both check engine lights are on. The solid check engine light clears on its own after three driving cycles. I am afraid the best way to fix your problem is when the problem is happening now.

    Sell it.

Find another tractor, use the proceeds for a down payment.

This Derate business is BS from our esteemed engineers who have never touched a big rig.

I can see the dealership now in 2030.. 1200 HP tractor, 5000 pounds torque, you plunk down half a million dollars and drive off the lot with wundertruck.

Your first upgraded loaded there is a chime in the cab and it says for full power insert a 100 dollar bill face up into the slot.

Are you buying your DEF at the same place all the time when the problem happens? I had that same code happening from getting DEF from a crappy source.

And then I went back and reread... 867k... it's likely the SCR got poisoned (coolant) or just went bad.

this is probably one that needs to go to a dealership. there is too many things that will affect this code: turbo, egr system, def system, dpf/doc. its weird that it happens going uphill only. need to have the tech test drive and monitor your parameters on your aftertreatment. I would drop it off and let is stay down for a couple days. its a tough issue.
