I put 400k miles on an 06 vnl 670 with a ved12 engine. it had 3.55 rears 22.5lopros and a 10sp direct. the motor was weak and always fell flat on its face in the hills. it started going through egr valves around 300k miles they ended up replacing both of them twice. it struggled to get 6.0 mpg. avoid this engine like the plague get a cummins instead. youll get 6.5 mpg or better with a cummins and have less trouble with good power.

just noticed 0 to 1 years experience... stay with a company truck for a few more years. i'm not knocking you or anything thats just what i'd tell anyone new to trucking..

parts are dealer only... stay away from volvo engines. that's why they are cheaper than cummins and detroit engined trucks

If you have your heart set on buying a volvo, try to find one with a cummins engine. Volvo Engines are Volvo dealer only! You cannot take your Volvo with a Volvo engine to a Peterbult dealer and expect to get good or any service. The problem with volvo is that they have the smallest dealer network. If you buy your truck with a volvo engine you are stuck to going to only Volvo dealers probably for the life of the truck. If you have an ISX then you can go to almost any dealership that is also services Cummins. I work at an International dealer. If a guy has a break down or electronic issue with a Volvo engine, we just send him on this way, nothing we can do!
The Challenger Thanks this. -
take it from a guy that works a volvo shop.....the d12's are volvo's best engine by far and like that one guy has said, these engines chew up egr valves like no tomorrow. expensive parts, expensive labor to do simple things....i would not recommend it.
