    Hwy,

Per roadranger the transmission can handle 1850ft of torque if it is a RTOC1809A while you say yours is RTOC1609A. Correct me, but i read somewhere on here that by turning up the torque can void the warranty since the transmission is not set up for that much. Anyways, call up a random dealer (not the one where you bought it) and ask for a price on the RTOC1809A transmission.

If I understand the conversion kit literature correctly. When its just a 9 (prior to the conversion) its a 1:1 final drive.

Once the conversion kit is installed 9th (top gear direct) is still a 1:1, but Over become .87.

Just curious, what did that kit cost, and to have installed?

So I'm curious about something. Why doesnt the transmission manufacturer make a trans that lowers the RPM when the truck is at cruising speed. 60+mph.

For example. When I cruise in my car at 65mph and in 4th gear, the rpm is around 3500. When i shift to 5th gear, it drops to 3000rpm. I imagine, if i had a 6th gear, my rpm would be at 2500, thus increasing my mpg and saving me fuel.

Why cant the truck manufacturer do the same with the truck??? Wouldn't cruising with a 1200 or 1300rpm increase mpg???

I wish I knew, it was put in either by the company that bought the truck new (Raven Trans out of Jacksonville, FL) - or the dealer. It was probably the original owner, I can't imagine running this truck without it - and they run Florida (70mph speed limit).

Thought about switching it out with an RTOL-18913B one of these days, and if I had it to do over again (and without worrying about extra weight) I'd go with higher drive gears and an 18 speed. It would be great to have a 65+/flat ground gear or 2 to run at low rpm.

The reason trans builders don't go higher than about .75:1 is because of strain on the equipment. There's no way to build a strong enough gearbox to handle that kind of torque and load, without it weighing a ton and costing the same.

If you do the math (or cheat and look at the charts like me) a 1,650ft/lb torque load multiplies into about 6,000ft/lbs of torque at the drives in low gears. If you reverse that same effect, in overdrive gears you're actually losing so much torque that they become useless. The 1,850ft/lb rated trans only allows that power setting in the high range gears, because of the multiplication on the low side.

As far as figuring out your drive gear ratio when you don't know it (no data plate info given on the doorframe, or somewhere on the truck), you can find a gear ratio calculator online and fill in all the blanks except the gear ratio. It's like working algebra - all the answers except the one you need and work the problem. Alot easier than a junkyard trick I used back in the day - mark the input and axles on a rear end with chalk, then spin it and count the times the marks pass each other :) Or if it was a differential, you count the number of teeth and divide them against each other.

Jag's have always been junk. You are a puppy. Know what the seat is next to the driver in the Jag? The mechanic!

Sometimes I wonder how all these new, fancy equipped trucks will be like in 5 more years. Will the owners keep all the "doo-dads" operating, or when an expensive part goes out that is not neccessary for the safe operation of the vehicle will it be forgotten about ? Who really needs some of this wizardy ? Very nice to have, hard to pay for, and terrible to repair, even if you can find a shop who knows how to repair something electronic.
For the oil pan, I have drilled a new hole, tapped it, installed new plug, and went back to hauling freight.

kiNGhUNTER I don't know where you are getting your 10 speed info on Swift. Maybe in the flats with the Freighliners, maybe. I have a 9 speed with the ISX in my '07 670.

My trainer had a T2000 and got 7.1-7.8 mpg. (with me driving!)

I roll out tomorrow on my maiden solo voyage. My Volvo has 400K on the clock. Looks pretty new on the inside. It has the dash rattle like I had heard about. At least it doesn't have the hood rattle squeak of the T2000. Lots more room in mine, and storage VS the KW.

Just wish I had a cover for the moon roof. Is mine just missing it?

    RT,

I see have spoken to dealers who carry former Swift 670 volvos. They have both the 10 and 9spd which are convertible to the 13spd. My apologies for leaving the information out.
