My speedometer has been messing up a little here and there. It might read 5 mph fast till the next time I restart the truck. last night it started reading twice what speed I was actually traveling so that the needle points straight down or more.. When I stopped I ran the cluster self test and everything worked correctly but the speedometer, it made it's sweep but did it pointing from 45 mph to straight down. At the end of the test the needles snap to the beginning of their sweep, except the speedometer stays pointing at like 85 mph.
I got up this morning and ran the tests some more and now the pyrometer, the air application gauge, and the speedometer are messing up and not snapping back to the beginning of the graph like they are supposed to.
Correction. I stopped at a light and ran the self test again and the Pyrometer is working again.
Anybody have a similar problem? Any ideas?:biggrin_2554:

I drove a 2005 VNL670 with the same issue and dealer had to replace the whole gauge cluster. Not a cheap repair from what I heard.

Thanks for the reply. It has gotten better, both the pyrometer and the air application gauge work again but the speedo has issues. I think it might be a ground issue in the gauge cluster?

Apparently from what I read I need to replace the gauges stepper motors. There is a service on Ebay replacing all 10 motors and warrantying them for life for $250. I guess I'll do that.

Sounds like a plan. Is that a 53 footer attached to that super looong tractor? OMG I couldn't imagine driving that thing in Chicago.

On ebay and at speedometerrepairguy.com is a service that replaces all the stepper motors and that fixes it. Costs $250 but that's better than the alternative. Mine work again.
