What do I do when the antenna warning light does not go off when adjusting the VR6? I've had four cobra radios so far and have had the same #### problem with every one of them!

Is that the one that goes from green to red so you know your txing..Trying to remember, been yrs..
If not it could be your ant set up issue OR the sentivity is to high and setting it off...
How to fix the last idea,no clue..

Make sure you are adjusting VR6. It's a pot by itself in the very back of the radio and a little to the right of center if my memory is correct. I can't remember which direction to turn the pot to make the antenna light go off, but it should turn off without the coax hooked up.
I assume you are using a cobra 29 ltd or classic. Unfortunately these 29's today are basically throw away radios to me because they are made in China and are poorly built. They use to be great and very popular until Uniden quit building them in 1994. If you want the features of a cobra 29 ltd go with a Uniden PC78LTX, much better radio.

Make sure you use an external SWR meter to check your antenna system. Don't use the radios worthless swr meter.

Well unfortunately I am adjusting the correct one. I have had this problem with three separate Cobra 29 maxes and now a Cobra 29 LTD all over the last 4 months. Guess I'm out $500 cuz two of them I cannot return. Will never waste my money on another Cobra again.

Oh okay, sorry to hear that. I haven't heard anything good about the 29 maxes. At this point do you have any idea what your antenna system is like? If the SWR is around 1.5 then it should be fine and I wouldn't worry about the antenna warning light. Do you have decent distance as far as transmit and receive go? By that I mean over 3 miles or more.

Haven't been able to check the antenna I think it's okay but not sure. Can't get the #### light off. Like I said I'm just going to get another radio throw a couple hundred dollars more away. But it won't be a freaking cobra.

It is your antenna, not the radios.

Sorry for the late reply, but it doesn't matter what radio you use if your antenna isn't properly matched to the radio. Basically like Ridge said, it sounds like the antenna is the problem. But the antenna or antennas need to be checked with at least an external SWR meter.
