Drive one. Then you'll know
.
I've driven just about all the major brands (Kenworth is the only one I haven't spent any real time in). And I swear, this 4900 I'm running is by far the best I've had. Does it have it's issues? Yeah. And I'm reminded of them Everytime it rains and the water runs across the floor. The HVAC system is poor, you're either freezing or sweating.
Aside from that, it's a great truck. Rides like a dream, handles like a sports car, and the cab is incredibly solid. I'm in the dust alot, and those double door seals keep the dust out, even if the HVAC system let's it in (I just turn that off in dusty environments).
This one I'm currently in only has 155000 on the odometer, not a squeak or rattle to be heard. The last one had 500,000 when I parked it, and not a squeak or rattle in that one either.
We did get 4 new gliders in 2018, 2 in January and 2 in December. The December trucks are quite a bit different then the rest. The cab and interior are the same, but we've noticed more Freightliner parts on them, along with some things Freightliner does different. Mostly little stuff, but you can definitely see the Freightliner influence now.
Overall, they're solid trucks.
Edit to add: they are on the heavy side. I run a daycab, with an all aluminum bulk tanker, my light weight is 27100 full of fuel. A Freightliner classic daycab, with my trailer, is about 25900.. -
rbrtwbstr Thanks this.

I can tell you by driving about every truck out there, the W/S I have in my fleet ride better, have a good solid feel to them and even with the plastic, doesn't always feel cheap and easy - some trucks I have don't have plastic everywhere, others do, don't ask me why it has to do with the trim packages.

I had a 2013 4900 .Now have a Cascadia.
On our Saskatchewan roads after three years the star was still solid, no rattles or squeaks.
After two years the Cascadia is coming apart.
The Cascadia used aluminum/plastic rad and heater cores. The Star had copper/brass ones.
The Star was 1,500 lbs heavier but I think it's worth it.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -

i own 4900FA.i think they are solid build trucks.as everyone mentioned they are on the bit heavy side but rides smooth.the HVAC system is worthless on older models but they may have updated on the newer models.also its pretty easy to work on these trucks, everything is pretty simple and straight forward!!
