So today, I hit a bump and heard this weird sound.
    Something like this...."BRANNGOINNN"

I pull over and sure enough....
Broken hood spring. Cant open the hood w/o help now until I get that new spring....
Called Kenworth. They have them in stock....all for the LOW LOW price of $140 each

    :biggrin_2556:

While it looks straight forward to replace these, how DIFFICULT is it and are there any tricks/hints for this? - I plan on replacing BOTH, since the 2nd one cant be that far away from breaking next...

Each ride out, its something new and unique I get to look forward to fixing... :biggrin_25513:

When they are fully open and fully closed, they are under full tension. You will have to support the hood 1/2 open to get the lowest tension on the springs.

It will prolly take a few trips to de-bug it!!

I'm not sure on a W900 but on a Freightliner there are eyes at the end of the cable/spring that attach and swivel around a bolt. If yours is set up that way, it's important that the eye can swivel or it will break at that point. Good luck.

My only guidance is to quit breaking stuff so you can stop spending money on that thing start making money with it!

hmmm never had a kw break one before--lots of shakers do it tho---get somebody you trust and while you stay under the hood--get them to lower it so there is no tension --then replaace---just have to make sure the spring doesnt rub on anything when hood is down

I guess I will ask the dealer how they do this...or maybe have them do it. Dunno yet.
    Spring price is bad enough.

By the way, I am not looking for stuff to fix on this truck. It just happens that each time I take it out, something seems to break or fail.

It's actually bordering on annoying now....

Thank God I have a regular full time job...I have no idea how repairs would be covered w/o that....

Once winter hits, the rig will sit for quite a while and at least I won't be discovering new and expensive things that need repair.
