I finally did a close look at my dash gauge lights tonight.
I have 2 burned out ones (one in each speedo/tach) and a mixture of red and amber bulbs.
Anyone have a good source for these (besides KW)?
They have no part number on them but they are a small bulb with a twist-n-lock plastic base. They are about the size of a 194bulb but with a fixed/attached base.
The red ones have a grey base and the amber ones have a black base.
Red makes the gauges appear washed out and not as ez to read.

I think that bulb number sounds right. You just take needle nose pliers, give that plastic base about a 1/4 turn and pull them out. The bulb just pushes into that plastic base. If the plastic base gets old and doesn't want to light up, you may have to buy that from KW, but the bulbs can come from anywhere. You can get whatever color bulbs you want, or buy little rubber covers that go over the regular bulbs.
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
I had presumed it was an assembly.
You are so right. I pulled the bulb right out. It is a 194.
Now the ones I have are PAINTED...but I have seen ones on my MR2 that have little condoms on them as well.
I would like to get amber bulbs (not sure red is really bright enough..especially since i like the dash dimmed when I am driving).
I could even explore LED at this point. Thanks for the quick reply! -
When I bought my truck, dash lights were a mix of red, and white, LEDs, and incandescent; went to all red LEDs, and yes they do make the gauges appear washed out. I always found the white lights too bright , turning the brightness knob way down, wish I would have tried the amber, but some of my gauges are Tel Tek digital with red led readout, so I thought I'd just stay with red.
Google Super Bright LEDs, they have about the best prices on LEDs that I have found. -
NAPA...194NA bulbs in a pack of 10 behind the counter. 20 of them with tax cost me like $20. These are your basic Amber 194 bulb and the glass is colored vs a coating or condom type cover. Made in the USA too...so I suspect they will burn out sooner, since everyone I know loves their job so much around here...

How about another question, in this thread...I want to swap around some gauges as the steering wheel kinda blocks my view and putting some in the same area makes more sense to me. I want to relocate the fuel restriction thingy gauge but it has this hose going to it, with a fitting I am not familiar with - last thing I need to do is remove something only to find I need some proprietary Ferrel or something....

should be ok looks like a plain old an fitting to me

how about some picture's of the guages at night after you get the amber bulbs installed?
