Got a few questions about the W900A.

Ive got a 1973 according to the title, the engine is a Small Cam cummins stamped with a 76 date on the block, 9spd fuller, reyco spring ride, day cab, short hood.

Its just a project truck i plan to tinker with over the years and make into a show truck, but still use it some. Ill have a lot of questions a long the way but want to get a few out of the way up front for the first few things ill be doing. Ive tried doing some research on these things but keep coming up with no info.

    1. I would like to convert it to an extended hood. so what are all of the differences. I doubt its just as simple as moving the cab back and extending/shortening all necessary items involved in moving it? Is the axle placed the same? and so on?

    2. I Like the low stance i see with a lot of trucks, and i do want to ditch the spring ride and replace it with a different cutoff, I would like to do KWs AG100, i know the 200 liked to wear out parts fast but other than that is there any disadvantages to it? i doubt i would get more than a couple thousand miles on the truck per year. And I know I could always find a newer AG400 or 460 but those would be out of my price range but you never know i guess. My question is though, will this suspension give me the look i want or should I look for a Pete low air leaf suspension? Is my reyco cutoff going to be worth much?

    3. I would like to do an air ride front axle again keeping with the look, I would also probably want brakes on the front axle as the axle on the truck currently does not have them, so should I just find a complete one with brakes? Where is a good place to get the air ride.

    4. I think i will be putting a 36" flat top on it. I would like to make the opening big so that the cab transitions into the sleeper about like a pete, where it still looks seperate, but the seats can recline into the sleeper. Where could I find a gasket to accomodate this and will i run into other issues. I would also like to combine the cab and sleeper onto the same mounting so they ride together, is this as simple as just creating a frame for them?

    Guess thats all for now.

    Thanks.

Well Max, I will admit I have never had a 900, but I'll give it a shot, with that said I do believe that the friont axle setback on both "hoods" is about the same. So I would say yes, you could move the cab back and install the longer hood.

However, this means that your shift lever will also "move" forward, I'm guessing you will also have to slid the engine/tranny rearwards? Also dont forget about your steps/batt box tanks etc.

As far as a low stance on the front I believe most of those guys are running car hauler 5" drops and then puting them on air, at least I have seen a few done as such.

As far as the sleeper goes you will have to bolt some supports under the cab floor that will ext. under the sleeper and I would guess you could get a "roll" of gasket material for your larger opening.

The only parts that I have had to replace on my AG 200's is the centering bushings and of course the radius arms, they are easy.

I would suggest you get to the next big rig show around, Mid America at Louisville is coming up. Take a GOOD camera and go to the custom lot and ask questions, you will be suprised how open some of those guys are.

After all they built those trucks to be admired, right.

    Hope that helps, Stan
