W900L excessive hood shake

Yes sir. All new pivots and bushings. New pegs on rear support. New hold down latches. Everything that can be replaced has been replaced. Bolts are tight to frame.

 

Here's a short video I made this morning. I was just now able to load it to YouTube. I was a little shaky trying to hold cam and drive but if you watch as I cross the rr tracks you can see it shake side to side. You can hear it squeaking a little too but I'm pretty sure I got the squeak fixed this afternoon. I'll know for sure tomorrow morning.

May be a stupid question because it seems you have done everything but are you sure your bump stops are adjusted up to the rests properly? And be careful not to over do that or you can break the rest off. I have the same problem with my hood. Mine used to be perfect until I was hit by a car in an accident and it has never been right since. Even after MHC KW allegedly fixed it during the insurance job I've gotten used to it though.

 

I'm gonna go over everything again this afternoon but I'm pretty sure everything is adjusted properly. Maybe I'm missing something there. It's more like it's sitting where it needs to sit but something in the bracing that gives rigidity is weak and letting it rock side to side.

I did did learn the other day that that's hoods are made out of two different materials. One is fiberglass, which I assumed this one was, and the other is called Metton. I think the metton is some type of plastic? Anyway according to the brown hood assist springs I have, from the reading I've done, I think my hood is the metton.

No accident here but I do remember when the shaking started with mine. Can't say that it started all at once but I do remember the first morning I noticed it. It's been a good while ago and it seems to be getting worse over the last couple months. May be one of those things that will have to get much worse or even have something to break to find it. Just hoping to cure the problem before it got to that point.

 

Looking at your video it seems your front hinges have a play, it could be as another driver suggested, that you may need few washers to solve your problem. Have some one to try to move the hood sideways by the hinges and go under the truck and try to see if there is any movement around the hinge pins. I hope you find your problem soon, i'm just like you I wont rest till i find the problem. Good luck.

 

I replaced both hinge pins and hinges with brand new about a month ago. New rubber bushings in the hinges to. That was exactly my thinking also. I think something about the hood is giving and letting the hinges rock side to side. It's almost like the rubber hinge bushings aren't stiff enough to hold the part of the hinge that bolts to frame steady. I've replaced those bushings 3 times so far with no improvement.

 

Here's what I've replaced. I've used all KW OEM Parts. The bottom 2 pics show aftermarket polyurethane but it's just for picture to give an idea. I used the actual rubber parts from KW. I've also replace the hold down straps on hood exterior.

 

What kind of trailers do you pull and what shape are the tires in? Trailer tires maybe out of balance causing shakes. Just a guess.

 

I pull a 48' spread axle flatbed, air ride, combo. It's mine. Tires are in good shape and fairly new.

Im almost positive this isn't related to tires or any type of suspension issue. It's gotta be something going on with the hood or mounts itself.
