I too wanted a non smoking trainer I had to wait a week longer then the smokers I went to orientation with but we'll worth it. As for music, talk radio etc etc. Your best bet is to just keep telling yourself this is only temporary. Sharing a truck with someone can be tough. My trainer and I actually had a lot in commen (we liked the same music, similar political and religious views) but I would notice when it came close to his hometime and I would be going to a hotel little things he did would really annoy me. I just kept my mouth shut and dealt with it because I knew it wasn't permanent. I have been out in my own truck for about 2 weeks (with werner) and absolutely love being solo on the road

I don't think you should be too choosy about your trainer, you're stuck with them for about 5 weeks and then you're on your own.. suck it up buttercup, that's what I had to do.. its paying very well, ive had multiple checks over 1000 bucks for the week.
nshore harleyguy Thanks this. -
Oh yea. If your trainer is an absolute pig or you just can't get along with him/her they are pretty good about switching you out with another trainer. I kept the same trainer through out training but 1-2 others I keep in contact with from orientation asked for different trainers for various reasons and they were re assigned pretty quickly

It is only temporary. Even with someone you get along with little things they do will get under your skin. But it will go by pretty fast. I was determined to keep the same trainer (unless there was a safety or serious quality of life issue) just to get it done asap -
yep, I was in the same boat.. I've been on my own a little over 3 months now over the road and im loving it.

I couldn't understand the need to pee in a bottle bottle until I was stuck without any legal drive hours left on a street overnight outside a closed shipper.

I never understood it until I was in the same boat. LoL. I have a friend that drives a truck and carries a bucket for the other bathroom activity (i won't go into detail but I am sure most of you can figure out what that is) I don't think I would ever go that far. Just plain disgusting

the bottle doesn't work for girls lol

Everything else I mentioned was wishful best case scenario and just making conversation. This "buttercup" has spent more than a few days in cramped quarters below decks so the smells and idiosyncrasies of people you barely know are not going to be an experience new to me; nor will I have to discover for the first time how to bite my tongue or go along to get along.
I could tell the story of the proselytizing Christian from the inner city of Detroit wearing head phones crying Hallelujah while listening to the latest release from Steve Wonder: Talking Book, and the effeminate Texan who was struggling with his sexual identity both deciding at the same moment to approach my rack and get me to understand what it was they needed to tell me...this all takes place in an area about the size of a smallish walk-in closet.
Or...try spending 6 days in a tent waiting for the weather to break; now those are some serious smells.
As I mentioned this is not my first rodeo...though it is my first time riding a 13 speed bull though the dark of night...
Having said that, I greatly appreciate y'all taking the time to offer your thoughts and posting comments. You're out there, you're living the life and doing the hard yards, only a fool would ignore your input...and my mama didn't raise no fools.
Thanks for posting.
