A couple weeks is fine, but I wouldn't wait longer than that.

None taken Allow! I appreciate all the advice I have recieved from vets such as yourself on this forum. I have learned in life to glean knowledge from the most useful sources. Books, trade magazines, Youtube videos, and talking with/asking questions of people with more experience and training go a long way toward providing someone with a foundation for success. That coupled with hard work, a positive attitude and patience creates the personal experiences and success that leads one to the goals of life- Security, Happiness and Wisdom. So keep the good stuff coming! And I describe this as my dream job because it is a small established company with many of the qualities that I have learned(through this forum and my own employment experience) are important in a trucking company.

And I have wanted to pull stepdeck and heavy haul since I first wanted to be a truck driver(about 35 years ago). I have always enjoyed working with and around heavy equipment and machinery, driving and challenging work like I believe open deck transport does. I guess I feel there is more of a connection to the heritage of the original teamsters(horse drivers) as well and ultimately, from what I have heard, the guys that do it are mostly semi-crazy, independent, physically fit, responsible, attitude appropriate, politically incorrect and WELL PAID.

While waitting, why not apply for the hazmat background checks?
Then use the check to get a "TWIC" card? (About two weeks).
Since you might have to go around ports, and impress your "dream job" company.

I don't have the extra couple hundred laying around to pay for that right now. Anyway, I have scheduled orientation with the van company. Get the experience and the opportunities will come. Now the stepdeck company will call me tomorrow. HaHa
