Wait times on average

depends on the loacations and how much you or the others at your company piss off the dock workers

 

My average is 2 hours and thats pulling reefers. Also it depends how many trucks are in front of you.

 

That's almost impossible to answer. It varies widely. I have spent less than 20 minutes waiting and over 12 hours. Yes it really took Mclane Food Distribution in Temple, Tx 12 hours to unload me. Gotta love lumpers. Most of the time when you get into the dock it doesn't take too long, sometimes it's the waiting to get a dock that takes a while.

 

Average for me on a full load....about 1.5 hours plus or minus.

Most loads I get are done fairly quick, at either end. I occasionally get the bad one that takes 4 hours. It's rare though.

Factor in the fact I pull a dry van.

 

Most aren't too bad -- 30 min to an hour. However, we have had the really bad ones (right now we're working on 4 1/2 hours for a door here in Madison, WI). A couple of weeks ago we waited 2 days in Nogales, AZ waiting for watermelons from Mexico to clear customs -- guess the guys at the border were checking to see if they were smuggling illegals or drugs in them. Supposed to get detention on that one -- we're not holding our breath though. It isn't unusual to wait 4-8 hours but like others said -- it varies widely. Seems like the long waits happen more often than they really do -- probably because they stand out more than the good ones. The thing that really gets me is paying for them to unload you after you waited forever and wasted a good amount of your driving (earning) time waiting. Better than unloading yourself though.

 

OK, 5 1/2 hours to get a door. Now we'll see how long it takes them to take off the 4 pallets we're delivering here. Guess we're not going to make it to our last stop on time -- 1 1/2 hours away and out appt is in 1/2 hour. Another day on the road.

 

it just took kroger inc a union company on state st in cincinnati,oh 4hours to unload 30 skids of empty boxes it took 25 minutes to load it at the shipper non union company

 

Whats wrong with that? Empty boxes are extremely labor intensive. And they have to sign for the load.

God forbid one of those boxes get through with cracker crumb inside. It screws billing up completely, since they now have to pay for one partially loaded box. And get it added to the bill.

Oh the horror of it all. And you thought these guys were just goofing off.

I sat 7 hours getting unloaded at Gordon Food Service in Springfield, OH.

I had a 53' trailer loaded in 45 minutes at Dakota Growers in KY and they apologized for taking so long.

It all depends on the shipper or reciever and whether you have an appointment or it's first come, first served. Of course, you can have an appointment and still wait hours for a dock door.

Some places are ran better than others.
