    Hi Folks,

Heard some horror stories about how long it takes to get loaded for reefer loads of fresh produce out of California. Appreciate hearing about people's real world experience with how long on average they are usually taking to get loaded at the sheds, and whether they are getting compensated for the extra waiting and loading time - or if the shippers and brokers just expect you to eat it.

Also, are you deadheading most of the time to places like Salinas or Fresno - can't imagine there's a lot of backhaul freight going into those areas?

It all depends on the shed. I haven’t done produce in years, but some you might hit the door in a hour or two. Others 10-12 hours.
You also may have long wait on the delivery end also.

Taylor Farms is one of those 10-12 hour ones. Rarely went there but when I saw them on my load sheet, I knew my day was ####ed

I can come up with horror stories, just parking at the truckstop in salinas, with a FLATBED, no need for a reefer around there . lol

I’ve stopped doing lumper, furniture loads and floor loaded. These are the worst for waiting times.

I do lots of floor loads, but the unloading pay is huge.

Floor loads for any kind of paper products or plastic products seem to be really, really bad.

Produce in Arizona for dry van isn't bad at all.

Yeah, pulling into the Pilot in Salinas just to fuel or scale is a horror story in itself

Nasty bathrooms, scary people, terrible food, garbage everywhere or all of the above?

People parking on the scale, line of 3-4 trucks waiting behind him. Fuel islands backed up into the exit. Just a lousy place to go in and out of. Forget finding parking after noon as well if you need to park. Place just blows
