These are the only companies AIT gave me apps for. I applied online to Watkins and did paper apps for the others.

Do you have to have prehires before school starts?
Flood the market with applications; Schneider, Knight, System Transport, Western Express, K&B Transportation, JBS Carriers, CRST, Gordon, Mesilla Valley Transport, Carolina Cargo, TransAm, etc. Not all companies give prehires though, but get hot on the computer and get the apps out there.

That's what they told me. The recruiter said I was supposed to know by the end of last week, but that didn't happen. Hopefully I should know more by the end of today. I'm pretty much at their disposal because I was in this school 7 years ago but dropped out do to being homeless. They tracked me down 2 years ago and sued me for not finishing. For the last six years I have been working steady and paying them every payday what they were awarded by the court. Having said that, I decided to call them and see if I could go back to school since I am paying them anyway and they told me I could. When I graduate, the lawsuit will be dropped and I will have made good to them and myself.

Good you're back in school. Shouldn't have any problems landing a good job. Some of the better companies may not give prehires, so you can apply with them anyway after school starts. Best wishes.

If you don't have a pre- hire by the end of school contact CRST, as long as your drug test and background meets their requirements they will have you rolling in a week, its a starter company and if you have your CDL no contract required. Not the best choice but you get experience.

I'm not familiar with that school but many will have recruiters come in towards the end. Kind of like football. :)

But cover all your bases and keep applying like others said.

Some of the companies recommended here aren't worth dirt, in my opinion.

Become familiar with CSA scores BEFORE you apply to an outfit: http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Data/Search.aspx

If you go with a mega--and you don't have to--strive to go with one that at least promises a 5-year level trainer who will sit in shotgun seat while you drive for 4-6 weeks.

Avoid team driving with trainer, especially an inexperienced trainer (under 2 years). Team driving trainer goes into sleeper while you drive.

Some companies put new drivers out with essentially other new drivers as trainers.

Avoid folks who PM you to get you in with a dirtbag outfit.

Your CDL qualifies you for a variety of LOCAL jobs. Look into those first. You can start researching now, too. The mega starter OTRs pay lousy and will always be there. Read as many BAD company threads as you can stand.

Google 'trucking companies' plus your state and you'll get a couple sites that list every trucking company registered in your state. There's also yard hostling, city and school bus driving, straight trucks. Most mfgs have a couple straight trucks or more. Don't think you have to go OTR.
