Most newer trucks have a 13,200 lb front axle that requires the 16 ply steering tires. With the extra weight of the emission systems and APUs the steering carries more weight than 12,000 lbs.

I’m sure there’s some kinda minuscule mileage gain by having less weight on the drives . Less tire flex on 8 tires bla bla bla

You can get away with whatever the steers are rated for. My previous employer and how I run my current tractor is in excess of 12K, but, not beyond the tire rating.Siinman Thanks this. -

You don't think those High paid CEO's are paid for actually physical work do you? This is when they earn that paycheck and show the true worth to the companies they run. And I was really only talking about truck makers as this is a lot easier to see from production stand point. I see Volvo and Mack taking most of the orders and International with the new drive train they have coming out. They will absorb a lot of the canceled production and will take more market share. Sure Freightligner and Kenworth's fuel Economy trucks will sell well still.RedForeman and ducnut Thank this. -
