Most newer trucks have a 13,200 lb front axle that requires the 16 ply steering tires. With the extra weight of the emission systems and APUs the steering carries more weight than 12,000 lbs.

I’m sure there’s some kinda minuscule mileage gain by having less weight on the drives . Less tire flex on 8 tires bla bla bla

My guess is it’s because they run their trailer sucked way up behind the bunk.

They’re doing that, for several reasons. First, they’re tightening the cab-to-trailer gap. Second, they’re loading the tractor heavy, to minimize drive tire slippage. Third, the tractor rides better loaded. Fourth, they’re running the trailer light as possible to run one axle raised as much as possible. Last, the 6X2 drivers are running the pusher lifted as much as possible, which bridges the two loaded axles. For something like Joel’s spec, he can run 34K on the tractor, with the pusher raised. With 20K on the trailer, he can run 54K on three axles.

You can get away with whatever the steers are rated for. My previous employer and how I run my current tractor is in excess of 12K, but, not beyond the tire rating.

It’s just not the right platform. Neither an MX or Cummins will fuel mileage what a turbo compounding engine will.

Considering the workers they get are most likely not what they want these days I can promise they can cut cost and slow down production. Not hard to do and they did this during covid when supply parts was hard to get. Some companies understand what is happening before we see it. Very similar to truckers seeing a recession before everyone else does or a big up tick in the economy.

You don't think those High paid CEO's are paid for actually physical work do you? This is when they earn that paycheck and show the true worth to the companies they run. And I was really only talking about truck makers as this is a lot easier to see from production stand point. I see Volvo and Mack taking most of the orders and International with the new drive train they have coming out. They will absorb a lot of the canceled production and will take more market share. Sure Freightligner and Kenworth's fuel Economy trucks will sell well still.

If you get 4 mpg on a flat nose and get 5 mpg on a aero and fuel is 4 gallon and drive 100K a year. That little amount is still 20K a year saving in fuel. But hell I don't run RGN either.

Volvo and Freightliner are the two trucks that are killing it. The new International drive train should be very similar to Volvo's. Problem with the Kenworths are the do not do well being downspeed and so the RAR does not work well with the set up.
