I saw one with racks over the bed holding ladders and tool boxes the other day ago. Even contractors are feeling the pinch lol. But honestly if you don't need much of a pickup it's a helluva bargain considering outrageous prices on newer larger compact and half ton trucks.
Waiting on New Trucks thread.

Oh, one more little tidbit he offered… It’s common for him to see 1 to 3 truck outfits drop their authority and lease on, but he said he’s seeing 5 to 15 truck companies drop and lease on. These must be companies built solely on Covid spot freight and in the interim will help the megas run cheaper but ultimately will leave the market altogether and further flood the used truck lots. How close are we to that? I’m not sure but thinking maybe not too far off. That, maybe would be enough of a swing to start changing the balance of supply/demand.

I get quite a few calls/messages every day with multiple truck own authority wanting to lease on and haul contract freight. But they all want to jump
back to spot freight if it goes higher.
Also a number of them want to "lease on" with their own authority.
Neither group is worth wasting any time on.RedForeman, Magoo1968, Cat sdp and 7 others Thank this. -
It's just a shell game. They'll lease on somewhere doing the same thing (spot freight) for less money or at a mega for set rate $1.20 + fuel. Both losing options. Some might be fortunate enough to lease on somewhere with decent direct freight that pays good. Most companies with that right now are concerned with keeping their own drivers (who've been with them thru good and bad) busy than to bring on complete new drivers.RedForeman, Cat sdp, Feedman and 2 others Thank this.

Here's this week's update.
June 17, 2023
389 Peterbilt - 151.........12 389X's
579 Peterbilt - 196
T680 KW - 427
W9 KW - 85
Cascadia - 53
Volvo Family - 97
Mack - 53
International - 83
A big jump of 110 units added from the previous week and 175% since I started this journey. I can speak from first hand experience there's a lot more trucks out there for sale that aren't posted on Truck Paper.
So the dealer sitting on those 3 579's called me yesterday with a new offer. Still wasn't enough to close the gap but they came off another $4K. I'd bet that truck will be mine by August if I don't find another truck in the meantime.
I did buy a new reefer trailer yesterday. I priced Utility's and GD's nationwide and got the best deal from the Utility dealer down the street from me. For a well specd Utility with a TK S700 w/chrome and lights I got it for $97K. It was $6K cheaper than other Utility dealers and $10K from GD. I ate it on my trade-in but it is only going to going lower in value everyday. Plus I figured I'm upgrading from Carrier to a TK.
Funny thing though, these trailer dealers weren't in a dealing making mode (besides the dealer I'm going with). You paid sticker price and that was it. Plus I was I told both TK and Utility are increasing their prices in Q3 by 5% to 10%....like how and why???RedForeman, Midwest Trucker, Siinman and 6 others Thank this. -
Props! You put a new tractor in front of that and you’ll be rolling big.

Just curious and u don't have to answer if u don't want to. But what kinda payment is that every month for a new trailer? One of these days I'd like to buy new
-
Thanks. Trailer was definitely more the pressing issue than a truck. The truck is a nice to have if I can get a good deal. But my Carrier unit has been nothing but trash since I bought. No lie it's been in the shop at least 7 times since it was put in service last May. From needing a new battery, defrost issues and tracking not working I just finally had enough. I know I will be sleeping better at night now that the fleet is back to all TKs.
I know Carrier has to put a quality product otherwise Tyson, KLLM, Hirschbach, and Prime wouldn't all have them but I sure the heck didn't get a quality one. I do believe having it manufactured during Covid played a part in it.Midwest Trucker, ducnut, Siinman and 2 others Thank this. -
There's a lot of variables but assume the purchase price is $100K, being a first time buyer I assume they will require at least a 20% downpayment and you would be in the higher financing rate category so assume 12% interest....with all of these inputs you'd be looking at $1,780 monthly payment for 60 months.

12% that is ##### insane. I got my 2012 for 7%. I appreciate the insight. I will continue to buy junk if that is the best terms i could get...
