Folks dont understand this isn't "new" nor is this isolated.

Best pay attention, cant stop it but understanding what is happing
    eases the pressure

You must do a lot of driving in GA and FL. Walmart relies on outside carriers to deliver groceries from their DC to the store. The company they use depends on the region you are in. Up in the NE they use NFI. In NC and SC they use schneider and US express. And they use Greatwide to run out of the DC's in GA and FL.

I saw a US Express day cab with a WalMart reefer pulling into the WalMart here yesterday.

    OK

What's not new? Wally trying to control the whole dist. chain?

That's what we are doing here. We are paying attention and trying to understand.

I use to deliver to the DC in Johnstown NY. NFI has a terminal on Walmart property. I would talk to some of the drivers whenever I was there. That's how I found out about how the run the grocery side. It's cheaper to have outside carriers deliver than it is to hire more Walmart drivers.

Meijeir was going to build a store in Alpena Mi., then the depression/aggression/suppression, what ever you call it hit. Plans were scrapped. So what do we have left, you guessed it, mallwart. We have an old KMart that is just barely hanging in there. I try to help them out by shopping there.:biggrin_25525:

All the Kmarts around here closed and became "Sears Essentials".

You might laugh, but you can get a good breakfast at Kmart. From the little snack bar/coffee shop they have in there. It's only $1.99 or so for 2 eggs, hash browns, coffee & toast.

Yea It's basically a name change, best part is they have Craftsman tools. So I don't have to brave the soccer mom yuppies and teeny boppers to exchange my broken screwdrivers(I really gotta quit using them as pry bars!)

Our KMart used to have one of those little diner-type places, too. Closed up about 5 years ago. Their breakfasts were pretty good.
