You knew going into it that you had to pay dues, you also knew that a full time offer was not guaranteed, so I don't understand why you have a beef with the union, the union does not hire or fire people, only the employer can do that.

Maybe because I have a right to? This particular union local had a less than stellar reputation and quite a few people got burned by them.
As I described previously, this was based on MY EXPERIENCES and based on what I’VE EXPERIENCED having a union based job isn’t all it’s cracked up to be-and I’ll just leave it at that.Last edited: Oct 30, 2019

You knew the deal, you knew you had to pay dues when you accepted the job offer, I can understand being disappointed you didn't get a full time offer, but if paying dues is such a big deal to you should have declined the job offer.already gone Thanks this.

Well when the bills start piling up and the holidays are around the corner and there aren’t any other jobs that pay as much you what you have to do.
As it is a union job isn’t the “be all,end all” solution it used to be years ago when they were doing their job properly. The GM strike is living proof of that.Last edited: Oct 30, 2019

your dues arent much, and you knew about them up front. you knew it was seasonal. no one from the union local made you take that job, it was your sole decision.
you want to be mad at your situation, thats fine. but to blame it on others is wrong....
and gm is still a better job than any non union trucking company....FlaSwampRat, skinnytrucker and p608 Thank this. -
First of all this happened YEARS AGO so I’m over it. However, that still doesn’t and WILL NOT change MY POINT OF VIEW in regards to some of practices that some of these unions do. And you wouldn’t know about the amount of my dues unless you actually worked at union local and/or UPS station I was based at. Second, the dues taken out equated to almost 1/3 of my checks(and back then UPS paid around $11.00 an hour for package handlers),state/federal,SS and Medicare took another 1/3.
And lastly there’s some folks in Lordstown,Ohio
(and to a lesser degree,Janesville,Wisconsin)who are not too happy with GM right now.
And as I said before I’m making more money now than I have with any previous job-union or not.
Let sleeping dogs lie where they are. -
Isn’t GM trying to sending most of the jobs to Mexico?
Not the unions fault but that’s gonna be a heck of a commute for those boys.
skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
I wouldn’t go union ever again. We “bargained” a small family company right out of business.

They sent some of the production to Mexico. The biggest issue of contention is that new Chevy Blazer which is built in Ramos Arizpe,Coahuila.Last edited: Oct 30, 2019

Back to the subject matter at hand, I did a weekend at the DC in Tomah,WI. They have We’re Hiring signs staked into the ground near the employee entrance,as well as the usual Walmart trailer with the We’re Hiring banner draped across it. Talk to some of the drivers who are based out of the Menominee DC. Couple of them were cashing in their chips and taking an early retirement because some of the drivers had their routes given up to newbies. If that’s an indication it’s pretty much the calm before the storm, so to speak.
foggy Thanks this.
