I dunno; personally ; here’s what I’d do.. Ask for exact documentation of what they are claiming they overpaid you. Research it and if it’s legitimate make payment arrangements. Yes it’s crap; it shouldn’t have happened especially with a corporation as huge as Walmart. But, if it did: it’s just not worth all the drama over a few hundred dollars that might eventually kick you and your career and or credit in the butt. I’m sorry if that makes anyone mad; but, it’s just not worth it: in my opinion....just saying...

Ask them for an audit of the alleged overpayments. Any legitimate debt collection must provide you with this. I wouldn’t pay a dime until they proved you do owe anything.

Try to find some sort of documentation that pre-dates their demand for money, indicating you do not owe the debt. Tell them you are currently unemployed and will be on disability indefinitely. You haven't been sued so you don't have to tell them the truth if you're talking to them on the phone. Don't lie in writing. But they won't want to pursue collections against someone who is unemployed. Nobody ever wants to pursue a debt against someone who can't pay it.
