theres a work zone i pass through on i84e in ct, exit 15-16 i believe, i get tired of people doing 65 when the zone says 45 and gives you plenty of time to slow down, and people continue so I now put my truck and trailer in the middle and make everyone wait to pass my A%$ until the zone is over! go ahead flip me off, call me in!

I just don't care im tired of the driving public that has a clear disregard for the workers that work in work zones.

It does seem to defy logic, but studies conducted after a crash involving a school bus and, as I recall, a train, were surprising. This was many years ago and I don't recall the exact details other than the demands for seat belt installation to be mandated. Which on the surface seemed prudent. When the results of the studies were released it was eye-opening. In a test crash where bumps and bruises would be the norm for unrestrained passengers, those wearing seat belts sustained major injuries, mostly involving the pelvic area. In conclusion the recommendation was not restraints such as seat belts, but rather rearward facing seats.
Anybody seen a school bus with rearward facing seats?
However, I still read demands for seat belts in school buses from time to time coming from concerned folks.
Seems they "feel" (read imagine) that it's safer with seat belts.
So much for safety, --- in reality.

On the other hand, this incident could be fodder to spin as evidence that even stricter rules are needed with more severe penalties
to discourage Big truck truck drivers from ignoring the importance of complying with rules said to promote safety.
The airlines have sky-marshals in the interest of safety.
I wonder if an armed ride-a-long would promote more interest in safety from Big truck truck drivers?
    Slow down or I'll shoot!

You're neglecting to mention a Big truck truck driver's option of declining to attempt to race the ticking clock.
As Captain of the vehicle, it's the driver's duty to consider potential consequences of any situation(s) that could arise, causing delay.
    Too close to call?
    Call it a day.
Schedules shouldn't be a roll of the dice, gambling with fate.
What were the odds that the Wal*Mart driver would run into Tracy a few miles from his final destination?

Did he make it to a safe haven?
    Apparently they were "probably" correct.

Which tells us what? He was under pressure to beat the clock? How probable is it that a driver racing the clock would push the speed limit to get ahead of time? How probable would it be that such a driver would just ignore the clock, come what may, which may be running over the allowed 14 hours, --- and the consequences associated with doing so?

I'm curious how you came to know that the Wal*Mart driver "didn't even brake"?
Lack of visible skid marks would be expected with an anti-lock braking system working properly.

Perhaps the Wal*Mart driver was lulled into a false sense of security by depending on the state-of-the-art
electronic collision avoidance system the Big truck was equipped with?
That system was put to the test of reality.
    Pass or fail?
    Or ignore the results?

this is typical C'yA on all parts

like you said, the construction zone speed limit is not only not enforced, but abnormally low, and considering people drive faster than that during business hours, why are we clamoring over it at 0100

there are many times there are people going 20over the speed limit, but not on TTR

TTR has the most obedient, docile truck drivers known to man

So, did he drive to Delaware in a four wheeler? Why would his truck had been so far away I wonder? Sounds like an E-Log deal to me. If he was to slow down he might had gotten a Violation before he could get to where he was going or a place to park. Happens all the time with E-Log. Some times it makes you really have to push it.

I'm sorry there 7 year super trucker. Please, oh wise one, tell us how fast we should drive in construction zones! 55? 75? 100? If I'm docile for not wanting to pay fines and kill anyone, then that makes you braindead.

Few things seem more common than motorists who think they are better at determining the appropriate speed limit at 60 mph than a traffic engineer.

Ironically, they are often fond of citing the ignorance of others regarding truck driving.

You can't make this stuff up.

Guilty as charged. I've won the most docile trucker award for 19 years running. :biggrin_25526:

I've had one mission since day one of being a trucker and that's to get into the best paying driving job with the best benefits. Sadly I didn't find it in a trucking company but in a chemical company. I've seen rock star drivers come and go or get struck with bottom feeder outfits.

The only race that truck drivers should participate in is the race to early retirement.

Joe... He's also the one that in the past on TTR he's said making U-turns across the interstate was not a problem either... In other words he's like you said a super trucker wannabe & shouldn't be driving

I'll beat on ya with this one, as well. Yeah, when I come into a construction zone at 65 and it says 55 I am on the brakes slowing down, every time! Granted sometimes I may cruise along at 4-5 mph over, but I never speed 20 over through a construction zone (like this Walmart driver did). It's the stupidest thing a driver can do. I've not only seen 4 wheelers pulled over, and I'd lose my job if I were ever caught doing this, but the roads have uneven pavement, barriers, tight spaces, and lane switches. Yeah, I'm obedient to COMMON SENSE by slowing down!
