The timetable appears to show Roper wasn't in violation of federal rules that permit truck drivers to work up to 14 hours a day, with a maximum of 11 hours behind the wheel. He had been on duty about 13 1/2 hours at the time of the accident, according to the report.
It seems his log book was legal.
I expect everyone of us has driven to fast though construction zones. I know I did at time during my driving days & I refuse to lie about it. I'm not defending him speeding in that area but I expect most who put him down has done the very same thing at times.
The worse thing about a truck being governed at a certain speed & or is gear bound is it always seems the speed it will run is the speed it does the more bouncing around & vibrating.
I once drove for a company that had tachographs & our speed limit was 55 MPH, & it seemed that not a single truck was rightly comfortable driving at the 55 MPH, that at about 61 to 62 MPH they smoothed out with no bouncing around or vibrations.
Most drivers after working for this company for a while figured out how to beat the tachographs.
Walmart driver at 20 mph over speed limit, investigation ongoing about before on duty

You know something is just not adding up in all of this? They said he was showing on duty and driving for 13 hours and 32 minutes. Said he actually drove 9 hrs and 37 minutes. That would mean he showed on duty not driving for 3 hours and 55 minutes. They also said he came on duty in Delaware. There is nowhere in Delaware that you can be for it to take you 9 hours and 37 minutes to get to Cranbury, NJ (Exit 8A)? Another thing, why would he show 3 hours and 55 minutes as "On Duty Not Driving"? How many of you show that many hours a day on duty not driving? If they are claiming he drove his truck from home(Jonesboro, Ga), its 858 miles from Jonesboro, Ga to Cranbury, N.J. Theres no earthly way he could have drove his truck from Jonesboro, Ga to Delaware, picked up a load there, then drove on to Cranbury, N.J. in 13 hours and 32 minutes? Its not possible! Theres a Big Lie going on somewhere.

he was doing 65 and that's the only damage it did even with 3 other cars in front? I'm having a hard time trying to buy that.....

I don't think they are required, just as school busses don't have seat belts, I just never understood that one? But I will bet that the initial "hit" of the truck to the limo did not cause the injuries/death, but the impact of that limo landing on it side and flinging anything not bolted down around like a ricocheted bullet was the bigger cause to those involved.Last edited: Jun 19, 2014
