This is the load from hell. I should have trusted my gut instinct and never loaded it at first.

Back story: Was supposed to load from 4:30 pm in Memphis,TN (this past Thursday). Rate con said any earlier and the wait would be a while. I get there at 1645, check in and the guard informs me that there's 15 trucks ahead of me. At minimum 7 hour wait.

Now, I'm faced with a choice..bail on the load, (lose the whole day,Thursday) or stick with it. It was paying a decent rate..nothing great, 1.89. Besides, it was too late to find another load. Get on the phone and let broker know of situation. They say to keep track of time. Turns out I'm finally loaded at 9:05 next morning, a 16 hour wait!
Now I'm heated, I insist on a new rate con with layover plus detention before I roll. They assure me I'll get it but have to get approval first. We argue but then I roll, need to get to N.Platte,NE by Sunday morning..I now have a new appointment for 6 am Sunday.

I check in at 5:30, an hour and a half later my pager goes off and I'm in awe. Wow, finally catching a break! Only for the lady to inform me that they did not order half the trailer..20 pallets. Immediately get on with after hours broker..they try to reach customer but because it's Sunday..no guarantees.
They then tell me to send in bills, they have customer on the other line. That was 10 am this morning..I've called repeatedly but they say no response from customer. As I type this, it's 1531.

What are my options? I have half a trailer full and a load booked for first thing a.m tomorrow. Do I threaten them with dropping it off at some warehouse tomorrow? Can't afford another day lost..at minimum before I move this truck I will need a new rate con with 2 days layover plus however many hours detention.
Will post shipper and broker once issue is resolved,

(oh yeah, dry van load of tissue).

    Thanks.

The bill of lading says they rejected 20 pallets? Or does it look like you are empty..on paper? Does your load confirmation say how many pallets or boxes or units to pick up or just a pickup or po#?

Bill of lading shows empty on paper, and rate con only has a po#

According to Walmart they would need a new PO# to accept the rest?

Well you should of asked this before you called the broker .... the shipper would have no idea where the 20 pallets went and you can show a bill of lading with x amount sent x amount received...

You could have disappeared into the night with toilet paper for life

If the bill of lading says they accepted it all, I'd just haul that #### to a food bank somewhere and drop it off.

Hahaha! Good to know now...question remains, what's the strategy for tomorrow? And I hope this broker doesn't try to screw me over with detention/layover.

I guess if they try delaying tactics, that's what I'll do.

You need to call the brokerage about your reload tomorrow and give it back to them now so maybe they can recover it because it ain't going to happen. Going back to Memphis with those 20 pallets pays the exact same rate as the load going up to Nebraska, no if's and's or but's, and you need that rate con before you take it back there.

Don't tell the broker of the screwed up load how you don't need to miss out on the reload, that you are going to miss, or any of that. This information is none of his business and he doesn't care anyway. It only makes you sound as desperate as you are and they will leverage that against you to do what they want you to do probably for pennies on the dollar.

That's what I figured, already emailed broker on the other load. I'll call too. As for return to shipper I won't accept anything less than what I hauled it for, including layover et al. What if they play hardball, Local food bank still an option?
