The problem now is the shipper and broker know where their missing 20 pallets is. They will either have to get a new po from Walmart and a new appt to accept it, if walmart buys it, or sell it to someone else, or pay you to take it somewhere else. If they manage to get a new po from Walmart I suggest you hit them up for the same rate or at least 90% of the rate they paid you the first time because of your honesty. Even if they say take it over to dollar general you should hit them up for the gross rate they paid the first time. They should gladly pay it. I'm sure the product is worth more than the 1.89 per mile they paid you to haul it there.
Next time don't tell anyone unless it is a good customer of yours. I have had this happen in the reefer world. Everything on paper says empty. Half a truck still in there. At the time boss said bring it back. All the drivers and many local charities and homeless shelters had the best food for a while ...free. That's because the receiver is notorious for 12+ hour unloads and never pays detention. They pay it in the end and I feel absolutely fine how it all turned out.

I dunno. Never had it come to this on a load yet. Try to keep a level head from the start. Don't call screaming and yelling though. I'm sure more guys will post up helpful advice.

...still wouldn't be enough to clean up the crap that flows out of that place on a daily basis

Thanks guys, I'll try to keep a level head. Really frustrating though right from the shipper. I've never had to wait that long on a dry load, part of the reason I left reefer.
I had a similar thing happen on Tuesday. Was a Landstar load, 6 hour wait which made me miss my next p/u. 2 pick 2 drop..same shipper. I told them to get the load off my truck when it was apparent that I wouldn't make the 2nd pick.
The Landstar agent called me in a panic..offered $250 layover, plus $40 an hr detention. Ended up being $1610 on a 487 mile load. Sent the new rate con while he had me on the phone. These other guys...have me nervous.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Is this by chance a JB Hunt load?

I had a similar situation with a partial load in DC in Ontario, CA . It was a Saturday morning delivery and they rejected the load at the very gate under the pretense that trailer # on the BOL was different from the one I hauled. Another similar one was in Red Bluff, CA, but they rejected it as the BOL was handwritten rather than printed. On both occasions they accepted the loads the next business day with the paperwork corrected. So chances are they'll give you another appointment. But you don't want to waste more time, so it may not suit you well.
