I have read alot about CRST Malone the good, the bad and the ugly. I've owned my own truck in the past, but I don't have it anymore. Can someone please tell me more about this company. I would like to try out this L/P program but I really wanna know all the pros and cons b/c they will tell you what they think you should know not what you all to know. I'm one the not to sure side of things, because everything that glitters ain't Gold. They are painting a really good picture right now but in a couple of weeks I'd wanna be lookin like a chicken running around wit his head cut off.![]()

Well... they aren't as good as Mercer I can tell you that. Cheap rates as a rule from what I have been told by their ex contractors...

I looked at them. Did you get their info from a recruiter? It is at least a real L/P with a $5000.00 buyout at the end of three years and they will deduct that at $250 a week for 20 weeks. It is over-priced, but no suprise there. What I find the most concerning is the way they nickle and dime you for all the other stuff. It does pay a higher (not good) percentage. Trailer rent is outrageous.
Here's what I got:
LP Truck Information
2009 Freightliners Columbia DIMENSION237 Wheelbase ENGINEDetroit Series 60 TRANSMISSIONover drive 10 speed FRO-15210C (not super 10) CABConventional, Condo 70 REAR AXLEGear Ratio: 3.58 WHEELSSteel Hub Pilot SLEEPER SIZE72 Engine RPM1800 TIRE SIZE295/80R 22.5 AVG MILES560,000 Average MPG 6.00 to 6.50
Term of Lease: The 2009 Freightliners have 156 weeks on the lease.
Payments are $295.00 per week for newer models. Balloon (Buyout) payments are $5000.00. The payments and balloon is the same on all trucks. Balloon payments can be settlement deducted at $250.00 per week until paid (20 wks).
According to Ron Maynard, Director of Operations, the LP program is tough, but if a guy really wants to own a truck he can do it, as long as he knows that if he works hard the average take home is $1000 + a week. He cant sit at home on the weekends and he has to take freight in good areas, with good rates and stay out a couple of weeks at a time.
LP Deductions Estimates
Truck Payment $295.00/wk 3rd week after lease
Bobtail Insurance $30.00/mo ($7.50/week) at lease 4th week of month
License & Permits $40.00/wk (base plated out of Illinois) 3rd week after lease
Physical Damage Insurance 4.5% of stated value ($24/week) 1st week after lease
Securement Equipment $75.00/wk (until paid for in 50 weeks) 2nd week after lease
Trailer Rent $185.00/wk ½ amount 1st week full after that
Escrow (Bond) $50.00/wk after equipment is paid off
2290 $10.85/wk 1st week after lease
Maintenance Expense Approx. $240.00/wk on first mile ran
Occ. Acc/Work Comp $45.50/wk 1st week after lease Required states only

I've owned two trucks over the years but I have been out for almost 20 years. I'm looking at getting my own authority but not finacially able to cover all the expenses right now. Don't want to go the company driver route and can't find a good lease, much less a good lease/purchase.
I remember when you could get 85-90% with a tractor and trailer and they only deducted license and escrow. -
They tell me their freight is 1.75 plus fuel surcharge on the gulf coast lanes and 2.00 plus fuel surcharge on the east atlantic lanes. But I would need to see it to believe it. I am Mr. Skeptical though.
