You might also talk to aggregate companies in your area. Some may also have an age restriction of 21, but you may find some that would take you on in a labor position, and even help you get your CDL. It is long hours, and often hard hot work, but it is a start in the job market and possibly trucking. And it sure pays better than flipping burgers.

I would say go to the Army as an 88M. These are Army truck drivers. You will get the GI Bill, training and possible a career. It might be exactly what you are looking for. It is also one of the jobs they usually pay bonuses for. Hope that helps.

Also say to join military or reserves and learn a skill that is transferable to civilian life. Do you like working on vehicles? You can also learn disel/truck mechanics in the military.
Keep your driving rrecord clean. It's way easier to not get in trouble in the first place than to try and get your record cleaned uo after you screw up.
    I wish I was 18 again!
    Have fun and stay safe!

I was about to dispute this because I though OH would have a higher cost of living than southern locations . This chart shows that isn't true . http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/savings/moving-cost-of-living-calculator.aspx

You don't want to get into this ''Dirty Game'' of trucking kid...Go to the Military or School..Stay away from this business..

You are 20 years to late for trucking, when it was a great profession..

I loved the military; the Navy's motto when you go to a foreign port, "Get stewed, screwed, and tattooed." I didn't let them down! Did more than my share to carry on the Navy tradition. Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, nude beaches on the Isle of Capri and St. Maarten, and on and on. Made me a better trucker! Yes, join the military, then go truckin'.

Also if you go into the military, you will get a security clearance, which, if you still want to be a trucker, will open doors that are not open for many truckers. Think about it. But think also about a track that eventually leads to the US army corps of engineers or the SeaBees. Engineering is something I wish I had done before I needed a paycheck every week to support my family.

    EDIT: sorry, grammar

Most schools like the idea if youve never driven a stick before. If your new to manual it makes it easier for them to teach you the right way. As for age 21 for the preferred age. Finding a job locally is tough unless you know people in the industry that will take you right out of school. Depending on the school their career placement department can help with local jobs that are willing to take on fresh grads.

Before I give an answer, what are your aspirations in the trucking industry?

Dry van, reefer, flatbed, tanker, dump, oversize/ heavy haul, etc.?

Do you want to go OTR, regional, local?

What do you want to do in this industry?
