I think your problem may be more than you think it is. You say you have a year of undocumented unemployment. That is a deal breaker. You will have to figure a way to document it and show how you supported yourself while doing it.
IMHO, the bigger problem is the total time unemployed. With normal unemployment and all the recent extensions, you must have been unemployed for 2.5 - 3 years. If that is the case it will probably be nearly impossible to find a driving job with training.
It will be hard to find any job. While the economy is horrible, most employers will see a lack of initiative as the reason for long-term unemployment or something worse. Some trucking companies won't take more than 6 months of unemployment in the last three years. Most won't take more than 12 - 18 months from what I have seen.
If you are married with children, you might try the stay at home dad approach. You will probably have to dig around in the bottom of the barrel to get a chance.Nycmex77 Thanks this. -
From what I remember, most pre-hires I had did not care that I had been unemployed for more than a year. Why? IDK, maybe I had a stable work history,18 years at the same company only 2 jobs in over 20. Only one realy wanted to know more i.e. what have you been doing, you could not find a job in over a year? Did you work for cash during this time? If so tell the prosective company you were working for cash and can provide a letter from the people or companies you have done work for. It worked for me they just want to know whether or not you are a slacker. This is a lesson you should learn now keep track of everything and always have copies of important paperwork. With some creativity you should come out fine.

By saying you worked for a year, and collected unemplyment, you bring both your honesty and character into question....you might not want to bring it up.....
