I have been unemployed for 6+ months and my experience has been in the administrative field. I am looking into and seriously considering becoming a trucker. I am not experienced and am checking into companies that will train and hire, such as "C.R. England" here in Maryland. I am 45 years old and wanted to know if this is something I should pursue? I would like to know from other experienced truckers what should I prepare myself for, both mentally and physically and any tips/hints for becoming a trucker with no experience. Also, do most trucking companies allow you to take your dog with you on hauls (short or long haul)? Thank you so much.

You should define the reasons you want to become a trucker. So many people gravitate to trucking when they get laid off, as if it will be their saving grace, financially. There's only one way to find out, but, be prepared and have a back-up plan in case you don't like the lifestyle.

You will go broke with CR England, they are not based of of Maryland they post ads all over Career Builder in every city to find people. You will end up leasing a truck and going broke.

Although, if you want to be a company driver that's fine. I believe once you're done with the school, if there isn't a trainer available they pay you $25.00 a day to sleep in their hotel on property.
