Would you rather do local? Not much driving involved; mostly fighting city traffic and unloading/loading trucks.

I guess if you have a job now, maybe you don't need to change careers.
If trucking will be a financial benefit to you, then just charge ahead and get started.
There are over 1,306,258 CDL Drivers currently employed in the United States. If 1,306,258 men & women can do it, the odds favor you.

Start your career with dry van; it's easy compared to refrigerated.
USA Truck has a good program; after working there 6 months, you can choose your loads and run where you want to.

Just a regional thing. The day before, I get a dispatch time, run out pick up a load and come back to the yard. Or make a delivery and come back to the yard. No overnights unless you get seriously held up.

Yesterday I got a call around noon that I would dispatch at 9 AM today, drive about 3 1/2 hours, get loaded, then drive back to the yard. Then go home. I’ll make $250 today.

About an hour ago I got a call that I dispatch at 5 AM tomorrow, i drive about four hours to make a delivery and then head back to the yard. Then go home. I’ll make about $220 tomorrow

    dwells40 Thanks this.

You do what you need to do, to do the job ... there's average, but there's no typical.

I "drive" on average about 8 hours a day. But there are days I drive close to 11 hours. Then there are days I may only drive an hour.

But I work an average of 10 hours a day. That's from the time I start my pre trip, until I shut down and do my post trip. Then again there days that I will work over 14 hours, then says I will work only 2 or 3.
