So right out of school I went to a company that was highly recommended by one of my instructors. I wasted 3 weeks waiting for what my recruiter said was my trainer. During phone calls he insisted I was the only one waiting and they'd have my trainer soon. I called every other day and his speech got more and more loose. On the third week he slipped that there might be someone else waiting for a trainer, and he thinks a guy like me coming right out of school has a better chance of getting a job than an experienced driver since I won't have any bad habits learned from other companies.
Fast forward to the weekend before Training. I call to check up on everything and he said I'm good to go for orientation. Huh? He said it's a week long orientation and they'll pay me $100. Um ok, then I'll start training, right? "Well, your group (group?) will be taken to a facility for a series of random tests and you'll take turns driving. As the week progresses several will be eliminated from the group and by the end you and one other qualified student will be set up with your trainers." How big of a group? "A little over a dozen, but you don't need to worry. You're very qualified." All he knows about me is the basics on my resume and the fact I just graduated.
I couldn't have ran away any faster.
So, I've been looking at local $15-18/hr jobs to get my experience (around town delivery driver stuff), but I'm still itching to run long-haul. How do I get into long haul without settling for a starter company?
Want to avoid the 'Starter' companies...

Isn't Gordon out of Washington state? I've heard good things about them. Not sure if they train right out of
school but it might be worth checking into. -
Kind of raises the question. How long will we have to wait after graduating to get on with a company? -
Interstate Transport ?
May Trucking Company ? -
Gordon will get you in.. if you are a newbie then you need to find someone with good csa scores who is willing to give you proper training. Gordon. .imo .. is not a starter company simply because they are willing to take newbies.. first of all they will only accept you if you attended an approved cdl school.
With Gordon your trainer is not a Co driver but stays in the jump seat and trains you.
After training Gordon is a good company to work for and have a good career with.
