I've been towing RV's since I could drive (1978). Now tow a 35ft widebody Airstream with a GMC crew cab longbed.
Also, I worked for ATA Airlines till it wen under in April, 20yrs seniority.
I'd like to set my own schedule, and be an O/O,
I have yet to get my CDL, I have a cousin with a small trucking company, but they can not take me on without 1yrs experience?
I have the cash to buy a good late model rig, say 75K-100k?
so no loan to worry about.
I this possible? what are the good companys to go with.
I'm used to being out on the "road" for 12-14 days with 12 days off a month. I'm looking for a similar schedule, weekends mean nothing to me, but large blocks of time off do.
For instance, I'd sometimes back up my 12 days off to an end of the month and beginning of the month to give me 24days off in a row
I found one company, CRST with three man teams, 20 days on/10 off.
I LIKE driving on the weekends as the road are clear.
    Thank for any advice.
    Dan

Most big outfits will treat ya like a dog and expect the world from ya for little pay. Im like you i could care less when i work as long as i get some time off. Like right now im working my ### off and after those 3 months are done i will sit at home for a few months.

Thinking of doing something like this...Does anyone know if they will work with someone who has no OTR exp. I had my CDL a couple years ago for a few years driving local. I got a computer job and let it go. Now I'd like to go back driving, as computers are gonna send me to the loony bin. I'd like to go O/O and own my own company. Was looking at Schneider to learn the ropes and freight, and I been reading that they'll pay pretty well. Looking to run pretty hard to try and bank as much as I can to poss buy a second truck eventually.

    Thanks,

    Dave

FYI: that is JBHunt. They have been pushing hard for several years now to recruit small carriers to be dumb enough to do this.
