I called Florida highway patrol yesterday, and spoke with a gentleman. He said that per federal and state laws I would indeed need 10 hours off from the fire department before I could drive for myself. I'm sure there has to be some kind of niche somewhere I can fill so I will just keep looking. I appreciate everyone's imput so far. Thank you all very much!

i think it is possible to do this but not without a hired driver. with a hired driver and then you run the truck a couple days a week and give him his days off. but with a hired driver in the equation with only one truck its not going to be a big money maker but better than the truck sitting all but a few days a week. you will also need to know that you can secure the local work before you purchase any equepment

How about getting a day cab and leasing on with a supermarket chain slinging groceries casual/part time? If the route is right you might not have to deal with H.O.S. at all .Publix is the only one I can think of off the bat ,but there are probably other smaller ones , Piggly-Wiggly, Winn_Dixie....or just get a part time position with one of them until you get it figured out to see if you can do both and keep your health..Most important ..keeping your health , without that your sunk.
