I haves an 05 Columbia with a single drive axle, and want to open my options on loads up by adding an axle. Obviously this would be a fairly involved process, but is it possible?
Would it be as crazy as it sounds? Sure seems I’d be better off putting money in the truck I have than trying to win the lottery of finding a good one I can afford. The next concern would be what would it cost?
Want to convert my single screw to a twin…

I'll field this one, there are so many trucks out there today, it's foolish to alter the one you have. If you must, and there's enough frame, I'd go with a liftable tag axle. Unless you do off road, which I doubt with a single axle, that extra drive axle is wasted money. A tag, or "dead axle", can be installed at a fraction of what it would take to put another drive axle in, can be lifted to save tolls, and tire wear. Good luck.
Goodysnap, gentleroger, baha and 1 other person Thank this. -
Measure other trucks to be sure you have enough room, and you will have to move the 5th wheel slide forward or add one it's a non slider, if you pull a 53 ft. With the set back pin,???? you'll have to make sure it clears the back of bunk after its centered between drive axles?

Wait 6 months and I think you'll find a good price on a reliable truck. -
I know a guy that did that. He bought a single screw from Mayflower Moving Company, then bought another axle at a truck junk yard.
