Hey,
I am wanting to get into truck driving and all it entails. Like to drive, you can work me to the bone and I dont need a lot of people around me. Anyway, three years ago, I got an assault 2 and theft 4 misdemeanor charge. I didnt steal anything, just mistook the identity of a dog for my neighbors when I had a few to many and transported it thirty feet from the owner. She tripped over the leash and scraped her knee. I realized what I did and gave her back her dog. Felt stupid, but it looked exactly like my neighbors dog! I also overheard her say it wasnt hers and that got me going even more. Needless to say the drinking stopped and I straightened up like instructed and should. Back to the scenario...The cop let me go, but a little while passed and I walked past the scene (albeit far away) and the cops were still there. They busted me after they got more info about what occured from the girl. Attorney said the case was the most ridiculuous he had ever seen and said we should fight it. Anyway, they did a plea with me to have a few misdemeanors after a lot of good referrals and I said yeah as I thought misdemeanors were not a big deal (at least they used to not be). It seems now eveyone is checking for misdemeanors and in Oregon, you have to wait ten flippin years for (two) misdemeanors to be expunged!!! It is crazy but here I am. Are there any trucking companies that would hire? I have a good driving record and am a good worker who just wants a career to build upon. Also a college graduate if that plays into this seemingly complex matrix of good person doing a dumb thing and having to do the run around. Thanks and I know this question has been asked before, but I wanted to explain what happened as I would to an employer to see the response of people in the industry.

You should be OK. Someone will hire you. The question is why do you want to get into trucking?
-
Misdemeanors aren't felonies. Explain the situation, have someone take your back, and you should be ok. And good on you stopping drinking and getting your life together.

Not to beat a dead horse but like the others said you'll be able to find a job!

Like to drive is all I can say. You gotta try new things and if it does not work out, do something else. I want to get into the industry, hit it hard like I do and then branch out from it. I cant own trucks, start companies or all that without driving first. It seems like the right thing to do to really know it and is also what I want to do.

Thanks alot. you read all the threads and they are not your own scenario. ANy suggestions on how to start this whole process? Given this info?

best bet, talk to some recruiters,Prime, schnieder,or even swift or werner they offer CDL training with a 1 year contract, but talking to the recruiters should be your fist step.

Many, but not all trucking companies, only ask if you have any felonies. Some also ask about and include misdemeanor drug charges. Each company decides for themselves what they can and will accept, sometimes aided by their insurance company. Just look into who you want to work for, and give them a call. Oh, and a word of advice....without lying, make sure you can tell your story in a short concise explanation. Long winded stories, even if true get looked at funny by many recruiters. They hear so many longwinded BS stories that longwinded just naturally equal BS story to many of them.

Can you afford private CDL school or Community College CDL school?
There are several good carriers with terminals in Oregon & Washington; some of them recruit from local CDL schools and some have tuition reimbursement.Drivers Training School
