Start studying the CDL manual, do the tests on here(top of page), work toward your tanker/hazmat endorsements, TWIC. Contact schools about enrollment dates.

As long as the assault was a misdemeanor you are fine, they dont get concerned unless it is a felony. I beat up a cab driver and Ive had no problems getting jobs... And the cabbie had it coming...

What is your work history? If you have ANY gaps in your employment like being unemployed for ANY period of time you can forget about getting trained and hired by Prime like was mentioned as a company to look into. You can forget just about all the other companies too, if you don't have a perfect employment record, they won't train you. So if you for example just wanted to take a few months off from the workforce or for WHATEVER reason, if you don't have a perfect work record with no periods of being unemployed you can forget about getting a truck driving job. Don't waste the time and money of going to a school like Roadmaster or whatever either if you don't have a perfect, spotless employment history no company is going to hire you after you graduate and get your cdl anyway.

That's not entirely true. Swift will look at him. My buddy was unemployed for 7 months and all he had to do was have two people he knew sign a paper stating that he was unemployed for X amount of months and was seeking employment.

Thanks everyone for the quality and volume of responses. I will get this going and feel good about things. Didnt know what the chances were but think I am a good fit for the trucking industry now that it seems a more realistic entry.

It has been 2.5 years since the incident in question and CRST, for example, says at least 3 years have to go by before they can hire me on. This is good news as it will be 7 more years before I can get these buggers expunged. Question to all of you is this, what other companies have requirements that fall on this side of three years (misdemeanor speaking)? Crst is only six months away, maybe there are some that have leaner requirements that also have training through their progrmas. Sent out applications to seemingly 25+ companies and heard back from CRST only. This tells me there is a hang up somewhere, maybe the fact that I dont have a CDL? Given all this info, if I had my CDL from a center, would that one response lift to 5-10? 2-3? What do you think?
