I am considering changing careers, as I can no longer find work in the construction field in Texas. I am wondering should I enroll in one of the CDL schools here in Fort Worth. I have the following questions:

    1. Can anyone recommend a good school?
    2. If I chose to do company sponsored training, is there a company that you would recommend for a new driver?
    3. Does anyone know if you have to have a CDL to be a water-hauler for the gas/oil drilling? Does anyone know who might be hiring in the Fort Worth area?

All advice would be greatly appreicated!

Hello FWboy and Welcome to the site:)

IMHO, I suggest that you check with your local Community/Technical Colleges and their CDL programs. They can also give you an idea of who is hiring in your area.
The Employment Security Commission (ESC), has a program called the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
This program is designed to help train individuals for free, through funding, if you qualify (unemployed, under employed, dislocated worker...)
This would give you the option to choose which company you want to work for as opposed to a contract that obligates you to one company.

To answer your other question Re: the water trucks... Yes, you would need a CDL to go onto those sites as a driver. That is a very good job, usually Power Plant work, so you would need a good MVR and background.

Best of Luck with Your Success!!!!
