I got my class A at a school recently. The school was great and I have no regrets. But I don't know how to go about getting hired. I am totally ignorant about where to go that would be good for me. I am not 21 yet, so it seems that a lot of employers won't take me seriously. I am not expecting a lot of pay or benefits, just a chance somewhere. I want a job, but I also want to be confident that I am working for someone good. I live in the Chicagoland area, but I still don't want to travel that far to work. If anyone has any suggestions besides join the military, I would greatly appreciate it.
want to get started

Several questions:
1) When do you turn 21?
2) Do you mind going OTR?
I would suggest going to work for an eastern European company out of Chicago but they usually require you to be at least 23. It sounds like Swift is your best bet (when you turn 21), they have a terminal in Gary Indiana.
Or you can try these guys: JKC trucking out of the south side.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 22, 2009

You can not legally cross state lines in a commercial vehicle until you are 21! You can drive in state, just can not cross state lines.

I'm not 21 til May 2010. I think I want to go OTR, but how can I really say when I've never done it? Is there any kind of starting off jobs that are maybe half driving and half other labor? Thanks a lot for the replys.
