Talk to the smaller companies in your area in person. That's what I did when I didn't have recent OTR experience. A face to face explaining your qualifications is better than a static application online. Then all they may need is proof that you've driven OTR x amount of years and you're in a truck. Best of luck
Want to return to trucking.

I'm 53, and just got back in the truck after 10 years as a bus mechanic. After 19 rejections in a row due to "no recent experience", I got hired on with a local gas hauler. A lot of the other companies we see at the racks have trainees in their trucks, too. If you're all right with that kind of work, I would think that you could easily find a good paying gig in your area.
If all your OTR is still verifiable, you probably will have little trouble getting back out there. My OTR and regional employers are long out of business.
Age seems to be less of a factor than ever in trucking these days. The fleet is graying big time 'cause the young'uns don't want to do it, and the old'uns can't leave it alone!
Good luck! Choose wisely; no one likes a 70-year young job-hopper... -
As I have already said, thanks for all the encouragement. I don't know why I didn't think of Craigslist. Got three phone calls this morning, and going for a road test Monday, all Western states OTR. I can verify all but one previous employer, one is out of business, but the others are still around.
It sounds like I have a good chance of being back in the saddle very soon. Since I live in California I like the idea of just running the western states.Just passing by, KMac and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
Where about in Cali are you ? Also, did your wife finally have a changed of heart after seeing you suffer for 30 years ?
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
You have plenty to offer. I would be looking small company who can appreciate your experience. Not much has changed in industry other than all the friggin sensors that trucks now have
Age not a factor, guy filling in for me currently is 73 but he does have to do govt road test annually due to age.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
If you have to go to a big company Watkins Shepard orientation is 2 weeks at terminal then in ur own truck solo immediately after. If you pass the road testing they'll probably have you on the road in 4 days. It'd be in Montana for California resident

Hope it works out ok for you. Now that we know the state you live in, you can try KKW Trucking if need be after your road test. KKW hires anyone with a cdl even with no experience.

The road test. Well it went pretty well, I don't know what I did wrong but I hit the dock square on the first attempt, glad he didn't ask me to do it again. Sent me down for my drug test, (hair) still have plenty of grey, I know I have no worries on the drug test. This is company is all refrigerated. He said I can start as soon as he gets the drug, and background results, so looks like I'll be back on the road soon.
Oh, about the wife question she passed about a year ago. I have a wornderful grandson that I want to get through college, that's why I'm going back to work.Gunner75, G13Tomcat, homeskillet and 3 others Thank this. -
Very commendable of you to be so involved in your grandsons future. He's fortunate to have a grandfather that's healthy enough to return to work just for him. Best wishes on the new job and a return to trucking.
homeskillet and G13Tomcat Thank this.
