When I posted this, I was a bit irritated.
I was thumbing through a truckers news paper. The free ones at truckstops.
Came across a ad for CWTL.
Shows a picture of a O\O that's been on for a year. Then next page shows a O\O thats been on for 18 years. Then next page tells how alike and happy they are.
What stuck in my craw. First we haven't had a O/O program for 2 or 3 years. Prior to that we had a deal where you could buy a used company truck. There was a time of only company trucks. And prior to that was a specialized program of select fleet owners.
Anyhow the 18 veteran of the company went to a competitor, and only recently came back, maybe a year or 2. This was after said competitor just up and closed their doors. It's implied, that there's 18 years of loyalty.
    Truth in Advertising?
I guess technically he's been there 18 years.
I've been married for 25 years, just not to the same woman, or women.

    Grandpa;
You forgot to mention that in America, we have a phenomenon known as "underemployment". That's 97% of all workers earning minimum wage and/or part time jobs.
And along with the 20% unemployment that you mentioned in Germany, France, Britain; don't forget to mention that they still have a much higher standard of living (yep, even the unemployed) than we do over in this part of the world.
Matter of fact, just got back from Switzerland a couple of months ago. What a wake up call. They're laughing at us, son. In fact, they won't even accept American money.. Germany neither.
They treat it like we treat the Mexican Peso; worthless.
But over here in Slavelandia, those that disagree with the fact that they are getting screwed don't understand what is happening to them.
True, the Constitution was written based upon both the strengths and weaknesses made up to the time by failed ideas and nations, and was a major contribution to what made this country great. But people from industrialized nations do not want to come here anymore. Not at all. Things are different now than, say, thirty years ago.
But I digress; Mainly I write not to have any influence upon those such as yourself. I write to inform the younger, fresher folks as to what they are facing.
You see, our generation did have it pretty good. Things were easy as long as you simply just "showed up". Many of us are still in that mode of operation and we have no idea as to the radical changes that have taken place in this country; perhaps the most radical being the demolition of the very same constitution that you keep mentioning.
But all that is completely gone now, and the younger folks know it.
And if you have children of your own, pretty soon you're gonna' know it too.

Surfer Joe, m-G's not worth responding to, just blather to try get under your skin. Ignore him. Switzerland sounds cool. Got an email today from a young pianist/percussionist friend.

She's teaching in Switzerland after 2 years study in Germany, following graduation in nearby DePauw University (Greencastle, IN).

Yer right on, son. I can't argue with you there. Probably the "lowest IQ'd" thing that I've ever done was to hope that I could do my best to help others get a bit of clarity as to what they are up against.

So, if I am 59 now, and my life expectancy is 61, then I better not take this thread too seriously because life is too short!

IF I'm getting under you skin Vic, that's a good thing. It means you might be capable of learning a thing or two.

Joe, if Switzerland was such a good experience for you?
Why did you bother to come back?
Would you not have been better off staying there?

Underemployment is not at 97%, its also not an American only phenomenon. :biggrin_25518:

Part time jobs, prior to the installation of this most recent degradation in the White house. Were meant for retiree's to end a career , and teenagers to begin one. Not as a way to live a life. They like SS, were not meant to be the sole source of income for a family, of any size.

Now, they are a fact of life, because the lazy in our society have demanded that other pay for their cell phones. Cars. Health Insurance. Homes. Televisions. We have some of the wealthiest poor on the planet, right here in our own back yards.

Your health condition is your responsibilty, not the companies. Get up off your fat arse and take a walk. I walked almost everyday when I drove OTR, and managed to keep the 32lbs that I had lost prior to driving off my frame. It is completely up to you. You can eat healthy and exercise or you can get 2 slices for 5$ and some chicken wings an sit in the bunk and grease your colon. In fact, no one here has to work for any of these companies if they don't want to. I agree, some things could be better, but it's all in the choices we make. You can only eat what you buy and put in the truck. Granola is in the same aisle as Lucky Charms. Dried fruit and nuts are in the chip aisle. Quit blaming your station in life on the train; you're the one who picks what station you get off on.

Look. Its real simple. Stop working for them until they pay a living wage or offer good benefits. Simple as that. Why are you working anyway? You need money? Why? To pay taxes and what not. Even your house can go up in value so that you can't afford to pay the taxes on it. We already went through it. Conway is just another cheap employer. The problem? People keep working for them. Jimmy Hoffa is dead and there are NO standing threats to anyone who takes up his cause. The govt. doesn't care. They are busy fighting terrorism. If the truckers actually just quit working, that wouldn't be interfering with interstate commerce, they would be quitting working. And they shouldn't come back to work until the conditions were satisfactory. So this is an easy campaign to start. Just tell all the drivers to quit. Put up billboards. Start a podcast. Go on a radio show. Start a Youtube channel. HEY TRUCK DRIVERS! QUIT YOUR JOB! ALL OF YOU!

Did anyone read that? Well go do it. Then when people ignore this advice and the companies start starving themselves for more slave labor, people will undoubtedly start working for them again, but this campaign would continue. Spread the word.

Here's a fun game for all you Conway T/L drivers: Go to a website that allows you to invest imaginary money in stocks. Invest in some of the major carriers. Invest in Dominoes Pizza. Invest in Coca Cola. Watch your fake investment grow by %30 or more over the next couple of years. 1 million will be worth 1 million, 300 thousand in two years. Now compare this with how much money you made working for 2 years. You probably made 70,000 over two years if you were lucky. Now you can see that your "investment" made 230K more than you did and for doing nothing. All the "investment" did is capitalize on your hard work.

People work, make nothing, and go broke, while the investors and wealthy people grow and grow.

Stop supporting them. Quit working. It's legal and simple. The whole system collapses. UNTIL the people get what they want. A decent job for an actual living wage. Look at Landstar for instance: Their stock went from 10/share over 10 years ago to over 55/share today. They cut the rates to the new hires and started implementing more fees on the existing drivers. The driver's pay went down, but the CEO's and officers pay went up. So everyone should quit until the problem is solved and the profits are equally distributed. But it doesn't happen. Why? People aren't educated in the USA as to the importance of money and what it is for until they have been screwed by the workforce over decades. And by then it is too late.

Would you feel sorry for a large trucking company CEO if his or her profits fell by %90? I wouldn't. They take because they can. Stop letting them. It's a cycle of stupidity.
