I completely agree with this. I'm currently a Con-Way Driver and I'm looking to move on.. 2500 miles and less per week. here you're not an OTR driver you're a equipment Baby sitter! The pro Star trucks break down once a month and it takes 5 to 10 days to get someone rolling after a break down. They say they have an open door policy, the problem is there are way too many CFI personal standing in front of the door detouring drives away into other directions. this Company has way too many personal issues that still date back to when they were sold to Con-way! I stood in line last week to get dispatched with 30 other drivers just to be told they had nothing available.. then the next day they walk in 10 ten new recruits! Why the Hell would you be hiring new Drivers when you can't Move to current drivers waiting on the board? I'll tell ya, because after Five months of going broke while working here, they need to fill my seat!!

Wow this is one of the companies on my list that I thought would be good as a solo driver and then team with my wife later. Maybe not huh !

That depends on you work ethic, and what YOU need to survive. This is the point lost on too many others. Not everyone will be a good fit for every company. They may pay enough to you, to live on less than 2500 a wk. Depends on where you live and your life style away from the truck. How many dependents do you have. Do you have a significant other (who may work as well). Only you can answer these questions. Research does not hurt, but conversations with recruiters (who always lie) will answer more than any post here will.

For a solo driver Con-Way blows. For a team it's not that bad, but team pay is higher almost anywhere else so it doesn't make much sense to work there for too long. If you want to team right out of school for 6 months or a year while you get enough experience to find a real job then Con-Way makes some sense. In any other situation, they pretty much suck.

This is what I've made as a contractor. This most recent check is my ytd total as a contractor. 10 pay periods to be exact! Prior to that I was a company driver. In my first 12 months months with Conway I was dispatched 144, 000 miles. Thats $56, 000 not including detention, safety bonuses, layover etc. I was a brand new driver out of school when I started with Conway. So I would say $60, 431 as a noob in this business was pretty darn good. As a contractor I am on track to earn between $185, 000 and $240, 000 pre fuel/expenses. Thats about $107, 00 post expenses/tax. PM me if you want more info/PROOF! View attachment 58183

    Great info Getstepn!

To upload that attachment, there is an app under miscellaneous on Windows 7 and 8 called the Snipping Tool. Allows you to take snap shot of any image on your screen and save it to desktop. The TTR attachment app picks it up from there with no problem.

If you have XP you can download Snipping Tool from MSFT.

I have an iPad and have to go to a library 20 miles away with Windows 8 to upload my pics.

Doesn't Conway have a point deduction system for accidents? And if you reach a certain amount you can be fired, regardless of how many years of employment?

Something like that. It might only take one accident to get you fired (one of the "whats your 20" regulars was fired after rear ending someone). But points also come from customer/motorist complaints. My first week I got a demerit from a Crete driver complaining that I was driving too slow (I was doing 35mph up a grade passing a container truck doing 20. Discourteous? probably. Unsafe? I don't think so on a 5-lane 55mph highway but its in my personnel file either way...)
