Check with you company... Most will not allow kids under a certain age. Also you will need an authorization form from the company for the DOT.

Some companies will allow kids down to 10 year old. Others will allow down to 12 years old. Also, some companies require you to purchase extra insurance. I've seen anywhere from $7 a month to $25 a month. Also as stated, a form needs to be sent in and I assume they (your rider/son) will have to be approved.

I have a related question, does anyone ever have family under the required age limit and "hide" them? My uncle drives and he stated he does from time to time.

One of the times I rode with my grandfather we went to AK steel in Rockport, In. Pulled up to the gate I jumped in the bunk to hide and a security guard took a look in the truck and seen me laying back there(i played like I was sleeping), denied us entry till I got off the property. Grandpa had to take me back north up the road to a gas station. The mill good have banned my Gpa from returning. Also if you get caught by the DOT trying to "hide" a kid then they can put you out of service until you have the kid picked up by someone else. Be Careful.

If you have your pull another companies trailer then you have to have an Authortization form on file and a copy with you. DOT will let you know what the law is while your sitting around back. Call your local office and ask for sure.

Get a rider permit from your ins company. It's about $100 a year for it, and it covers multiple riders.

    volvodriver01 Thanks this.
