2012 4900FA, ordered fog lights in bumper, but truck came with driving lights in bumper. Driving lights can only be turned on when hi-beam headlights are on, whereas fog lights can be turned on regardless of headlights being on or off. Question- Is there a way to change the operation from driving to fog without butchering up the wiring? Thanks.
Wanted fog lights, but got driving lights.......

In all the years I've used auxiliary lights of various kinds I've never had any kind of law enforcement personnel care what kind of lens was in said lights. Btw, a driving lamp beam is the most effective in the most conditions. I drive a Kenworth, it has a separate switch for the aux lights so I can turn them on independently of the headlights. If yours requires the high beams to be on there must be a relay somewhere that accomplishes that.

Here, it will be like this but see that wire from the switch to the fusebox? That wire would go switch to pin 85 on the low beam relay. Whether you tap into that wire under the dash or under the hood is redundant. You just have to know the wire color. The way it's wired now that same wire is going to pin 85 of the high beam relay. Those wires run from the relay through the firewall and either up the steering column to your high beam switch or to the headlight switch. Just find the right color at pin 85 at both relays.
billandlori Thanks this. -
I will be removing my fog lights when I get the Herd bumper on, if you really want a set of fogs lights.
MartinSHC Thanks this. -
I had to do this on one of mine. All the lights go through a relay in the fuse box. On the back of your driving light switch where it plugs in is where you need to jump it. Unplug the switch and use a test light or meter and see which leg goes on and off with your high beams. The switch should be wired close to this. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...3386-connecting-aux-switches.html#post3253700
You would then find a constant hot from one of the other unused plugs behind the switch panel, and wire it in. Once you do that they will turn on any time you have the switch on. -
Thanks fellas for all your advice. Cetane, I think that your help was the closest to what I was looking for. Thanks again to everyone!
