While you're looking at trucks you need to look at how the business is going now.
Freight volume and rates are way down, you need to think long and hard about making the jump.

I would recommend a Detroit 12.7 pre egr engine. I would try to find an aerodynamic truck though. You'll need all the help you can get and that classic will cost you in fuel mileage. If you're going with Landstar, it takes about 6 months or so to learn the system, so you"ll need cash to survive the beginning. You'll also need money for repairs. Finally, you'll want to get approved first. As it can take awhile and they are picky in their hiring process. I started in June and am doing fine. Really like the self-dispatch system. Best wishes!

All of the prior post have good info for you. The only thing I would suggest is to look into other agent based companies to lease on to besides Landstar.

Admiral Merchants uses a broker system like Landstar. Any age truck will work, AND NO elogs like Landstar requires now.
