I’ve been out of the seat since 2018. I’ve maintained my CDL and even added my hazmat endorsement in the interim. I need to know who offers refreshers or mentoring for folks like me. I’m in the Austin Tx area. I’ve got 8 months prior experience pulling reefers. Thanks.

Check out your tech schools. Dude came to mine when I was in school and was in and out in a day. I think it was around $500

In case you weren't already aware -- the general CDL job market right now is REAL-LY BAD -- even for experienced drivers, with good safety records.

It's very much an employer's market -- & they know it.

When things will turn back around...for now....is anyone's guess.

Employers not only want experience -- they also want RECENT experience.

Thus -- given current market conditions, many carriers may well treat you as a rookie.

With all that said -- for a "refresher"...the following carriers have offered a program like that...at least in the recent past:

    • KLLM
    • FFE
    • Frey Miller
Given how bad things are now -- one or more of the above may try to get you to run as part of a driver team, on the same tractor.

Note that KLLM & FFE are "sister" companies of each other.

If the above leads don't pan out -- try Schneider. Many of their jobs now require 3 - 6 months experience -- but they don't say it has to be recent experience.

    Best of luck!

    Can you drive a stick-shift?
    Which do you prefer; local/regional/OTR

I need an automatic due to torn meniscus in both knees. I’m open to regional/dedicated or OTR.

So, no driver unload or flatbed, right?

In other words, I should just give up because I don’t have recent experience. I kind of expected that. Thanks.

    Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.

Know your limitations. Work that way and good luck to you.
