Hey Everyone.
I've been trolling this forum for a few days now and reading a lot of good information from all of the members here. Getting some great insight so thanks for being here.
I do have a question I'm hoping to get some experienced answers to. I've made the decision to get into trucking and from what I've seen I've got 2 options. #1 I can go to one of the big companies (Schneider Swift JB Hunt etc) and get trained through them and drive for them for a while (say about a year) and get my feet wet that way. Or #2 go to a private school and hope they can get me a job after training. From what I've seen and read, I'm not going to get into many jobs going #2 route because of lack of experience, but if I stick with a major carrier, they'll provide me with the training I need. Money isn't really an issue as I'll be paying for most if not all of my school up front so I don't mind leaving a large company and paying the bill after 6 months or whatever. I'm based out of Colorado and I know I'm going to have to travel either to California or Utah or other states to go to school. I'd still like to have home terminal in Denver
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm on the verge of a major decision.
Thanks in Advance
Matt

Prime is a good place to start... beats the goose crap out of the three you mentioned. We have a drop yard up in Federal Heights - 64th and Pecos. There's a recruiting gal who works there full time. Go east on 64th about 1/4 mi - on the south side. Prime training is the best there is in my book. Home time isn't a problem... I get routed in and out of there all the time. Drop the trailer at the yard, and bobtail home. Financial deal on the training really can't be beat - especially if you decide to leave after 6 mos. Check out "Prime" in the company DAC area. Pay is pretty good for new driver status as well as training pay.

Ya I checked Prime out and they seem pretty good. I had some trouble finding any info on them other than their website. It would also seem that are ever fewer bad things said about them. Does anyone have any other information or experience with Prime?
Ironpony! Thanks for the tip! -
Iron. I couldnt PM you back as I'm still too new to the site.
Many thanks to you sir. I'll check out the site. This may be the diamond in the rough and it's nice they've got a terminal in Denver. I really hope this works out! -
Lynch, if I could afford to go, I would seriously be looking into Watkins and Shepherd. From what i have read on here, they seem like a great company to start with.
Looks like they do have a terminal in Denver. -
Hi Lynchmob. I'm a trainer with a med size comp in Fargo. Yes you could go with a big company but I'm here to tell you the real honest to God truth. Yes they will hire you out of school..... BUT they WILL run you till you drop, mess up and get caught by the dot if you play that game and you WILL only be a number. Then you'll be gone and they just get sombody else to fill your truck. There are compnies out here that do hire students. Tes you'll need to sign on for at least a year but you wont be treated like %%%%* excuse me. The real problem today is a lot of companies are not hiring because the economy the way it is. My company had to have ALL employees take a 5% pay cut across the board. So do your reserch and pay attention to every detail a recruiter will say. Best of luck and keep me updated. Be Safe Be Good Be Gone.
