Hi, kinda new here, I currently have my class b with hazmat tanker and work for Ferrellgas doing bulk lp and forklift cylinders, more cylinders than bulk. I'm to the point that I hate coming to work anymore, mostly because of cylinders, 150+ day then get back and fill as many as I can. I'm looking into cdl school, and I'm located in canton ohio. I have enough money to get by for about 3 months without a job. I'm trying to find anything except having to be out not than a couple days at a time as I don't think I can handle living on the road, plus girlfriend doesn't like it either. Any input on the chances of getting a semi local gig out of cdl school would be great. I don't think I would like being stuck in a seat day in day out. A little physical work doesn't bother me at all, just don't want to be dead tired everyday either though. Was thinking about local beer company, something like that. I'm 41 and in decent shape, 6'1 200 lbs. Also is it a good idea to start applying to jobs before I even start? Btw, looking into big rig truck driving school in massillon ohio. Thanks in advance!

Your already set, get your A on your own, school or otherwise, use that B of yours and move to comapany with A and B trucks, tell them walking in you have a A and want to move up. Might take a year or so of reminding but sooner or later it will pop. But if you dont want to be tierd, steer away from bev. Companys.

That's a good idea, kind of thought of bev companies to have a and b trucks, that's another reason I thought of them, but if it's anything like throwing forklift cylinders I prob don't want to go down that path.

One other thing, your already in a non p/d type job, remeber to look and think outside the box. One of my fav, jobs ever was roll off driver. There are A and B versions, reg. Straight type, pulling a pup (thats A work) and semi truck roll off. Little exersise at the stops but genraly easy work

Plumbing supplier, building suppliers, lumber, bev, fuel del, roll off, standerd p/d , steel mills, street sweeping company, asphalt companys, those pod thingys, ......all have A and B trucks. Theres alot out there, go smaller mom and pop for a better shot to move to a A truck with little exp. Less regs, more prove yourself and they will help you types

Thanks I saw a couple of those jobs, but noticed they wanted around a year of roll off experience, maybe in should apply anyway. Btw what is P and D, I'm still learning lol.

Didn't see your last post, is it a good idea to apply before I start school, even if it's a class b truck? I'm worried I won't find a job right after school since I don't want to do otr.

Pick and del. Anybody that just moves stuff from here to there, dont worry about the exp required stuff. Roll off is 2 or 3 levers to run the hydros, 10 min to learn, 2 days to rember, and forever to perfect the put it between two bmw's with 4 inchs of space. :)

Appreciate your input streetbeater, I think that's def something I'm gonna have to do to get in somewhere. I do feel a little bad leaving Ferrellgas right in peak season but they also told me I'd be off of cylinders by winter and now I'm on them basically till I find a new job.
