While you’re working as a company driver save your money if nothing else in a 401 fix your credit then in a few years you will have a nice down payment and good credit and buy a truck outright you’ll have a much smaller monthly payment and more leverage. If you haven’t gotten control of your financial situation now going in more debt isn’t the answer

I drive for a small company (approx 300 drivers out of the Midwest) and am in their L/O Program. I really like this company and have been with them for 14 months and in the Lease Program since last August. We run Midwest - don't go NE or west of Denver. I drive a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia. Average 3 trips a week with the average trip length 800 - 1000 miles. I am on the Dry Van side and we get mileage - same pay for both empty and loaded. Reefer Division gets load %. Current program is a weekly truck payment but the company will be introducing a variable cost program in the near future. Safety Bonus is 3-5 CPM and is paid quarterly so if you qualify (it's hard NOT to qualify) for the 1st qtr of the year - then all miles you run Apr-Jun get the 3-5 CPM bonus. Also have productivity bonuses. This is a walk-away lease program. Msg me if interested in more details.

Your advice sometimes gets ignored, but you have TONS of evidence from your experience that lease purchases aren't the horror stories that are portrayed to be. I'm still here at Schneider, I've made a deal to make monthly payments with schneider finance, and I'm rocking it out the best I can on the west coast. Your advice is still sound.Steel Tiger Thanks this.

I was at JCT for 8 years. Now at Schneider for almost 2. If I run hard, it's because I chose to, not because I have to. Any successful owner operator can have limitless possibilities.... if they run their business correctly.Last edited: May 12, 2019
