and you are one of the drivers i constantly pass on a side road when there has been an accident or something. drivers who have the radio off in my opinion are a danger to themselves and others out there. there could be flames coming from under your tractor and because you have the radio off, no one can warn you. it would be different if everyone stopped every 150 miles and did an in-trip inspection, but in reality, who the hell does that?

the radio can be dead silent. que up a traffic jam for a wreck, construction or a cop on the side of the road and you drivers who have the radio off are the first ones on the radio screwing up the information being handed out by the ones who know what is going on because we pay attention. the squelch can be turned up, and then someone would have to be beside you to reach you.

    end of rant.

Since I didn't want to explain how the radio works, I figured it's easier to say I keep it off... to make my point.

But I guess since you felt like venting, I'll let you know that my radio is always on but the sq/rf are turned down so I don't listen to most of the idiots out there in the major cities with 3-5 watt radios. If something is going on, someone who pushes some power will get thru.

    Have a great day/weekend. :)

My radio is on nearly all the time i'm moving. It is a safety device much like headlights or turn signals...
That being said, i would recommend going to CB shop and getting a used radio and getting antenna and having it tuned. Most likely they can set you up within your budget.... don't go fancy just get basic setup and have it tuned. But if you got radio that does 11 meter, you're already set

I found CB the most useful to try to find out what had traffic snarled and how to detour.

I turned it off around West Memphis for SURE!
